Apple Airport Express

by ebaAay - 6/15/09 5:40 AM

What's the deal with the compatibility of the Airport Express with non-Apple routers?

I know it states on the Apple website it only works with an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station, but I was told by a Genius that I shouldn't have problems with any other router and in fact he has a set-up as such at home.

Any personal experiences with this?

I'm looking to use one to extend my range and possibly one for Airtunes.

Thanks in advanced.

Same deal as with all makes.

For years you couldn't use a Dlink extender with a Netgear router. This issue has only improved slightly. Not an Airport exclusive.

Will it work or not?

I'm going with no.

My experience with this is that consumers fail better than half the time since the setup is too demanding and the instructions, even if well written are ignored. Even my good friend will only get such going 95 percent of the time so for now the answer is no. Your chances are slim to none.
