Outlook Today and Sharepoint

by brumer00 - 11/6/07 1:27 AM

Hello!

I have pointed Outlook Today to my WSS Sharepoint site and am having a few problems. Normal users can pull up the Sharepoint site with no problems, and no login screens. When users open Outlook they can access their email fine, with no login screens, but when they go to Outlook Today (Sharepoint site) it asks them to login. They can hit Cancel about 5 times, and then the page loads within Outlook. Any ideas how I can make this login dialog box go away?

Much thanks!
Brandon

outlook today & sharepoint

I had the same problem and realized it was an easy fix. For some reason, having the 'default.aspx' at the end of the URL caused these login prompts. So just remove it.

I.E. So the correct URL to add in outlook today should be http://sharepoint and NOT http://sharepoint/default.asp

Hope that helped!

Reducing Authentication prompts with IE7 and SharePoint

Found the above answer online - my users had to login insessantly to get SP calendars in Outlook. It seems to have solved the issue. Hope it helps yours!

Basic content of site [I tried to edit to eliminate some confusion I had]:
The goal is to get IE7 to pass through the username and password of the user that you are logged on as. The best way to do this is to add the site you want to the local intranet zone in Internet Explorer. Then configure the security to automatic logon with current user name and password. For example, to configure automatic logon for Your domain open Internet Explorer -> click Tools. From the tools menu Internet Options select the Security tab select Local intranet zone. Click the sites button then click Advanced button and add YOur domain [ed: I used format *.mydomain.dom]. Click Close, click OK...

NOW - while STILL in the Local intranet zone in the Security tab, click Custom Level at the bottom. In the security settings section scroll to the bottom. Under User Authentication -> Logon, select Automatic logon with current user name and password.

You can use this method for any site that you need to logon with your current user name and password. However there is a current problem, if you are opening an office document or opening “explorer view” you will be prompted for authentication. I am working on a resolution for this issue.
