Tom and Rafe:
You mentioned after episode 164 that you wanted to hear from people and the gadgets they have been living with for the past year or so. Well, last year I was the lucky winner of an iPod Touch during your Thanksgiving weekend holiday call-in show and ever since I have been using this gadget non-stop. It is an indispensable tool for personal as well as professional use. I carry a wide selection of my music, podcasts, and videos for entertainment on the go, and I use it at work as a PDA for my email, contacts, and calendaring needs. In addition I have downloaded several apps which I use regularly: Tweetie, Stanza, Public Radio Tuner, and Scrabble, just to name a few. I work for a community college system here in Portland where all of our facilities have wireless access, so the majority of my time I'm able to take advantage of the web-based features of this device. As long as you don't mind carrying around an extra device on top of your cell phone, which in my case is an extremely crappy phone with a very cheap monthly plan, it's the way to go if you want to have almost all of the features of the iPhone without having to pay the monthly charges associated with an iPhone voice and data plan.
Take care,

My iPhone now serves as my calendar, email, cell phone, guitar tuner, Media Center remote control, web browser, MIDI controller, eBook reader, GPS, ToDo list, guitar, video camera, tethered WiFi modem, game console, newspaper, photo album, theremin, and (oh yeah!)... MP3 player. What other gadget can do all that and more?
It supports my belief that one powerful, flexible tool is worth several one-trick pony gadgets.
For some reason my postings show the wrong username. It should read robert-0, not Derfnevarlaw.
