It depends on the authenticity of the program.

I have downloaded and tried a few registry cleaners from download.com and found that most of them are garbage and not worth your time but...buying a piece of software wont necessarily guarantee you good results either. What you have to do is,do a little searching to find one that is reliable and accurate. I've found that CCleaner has been the most effective for me so far,and it's free. It's not really a registry cleaner but is called a system optimizer, even though it has a full feature registry cleaner included. So try it if you want and see if it works for you.

They are scams

by b1ffyi59 - 6/6/09 5:24 PM In reply to: Do computer Registry cleaners really work? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Hello.
I have PC optimizer pro and registry fix 2.2 which is an old version.I ran pc optimizer it found 1320 errors.I did not clean them then ran registry fix 2.2 it found 65 errors which I verified and knew for sure that they were errors.they were files I had deleted.I cleaned and reran pc optimizer. It found again 1320 errors.I cleaned and changed the date on my computer to a previous date and reran pc optimizer.it found again 1320 errors!.....
Since I find that these programs are scams,I am not shy to download them from peer to peer sharing. The industry might be against that but it's not right to steal on one side and not the other.
By the way the same goes for the film industry which sell their movies on dvd for 20 dollars in Canada and 5 times less in China!...

All utility work differently to show their superiority

by harish kothari - 6/6/09 6:17 PM In reply to: Do computer Registry cleaners really work? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

We use registry cleaner to speed up our computer. This problem of registry cleaner is just like virus programs, one Anti-virus programe shows that there is virus in the computer whereas other shows that your conputer is clean. People will be put to dillema weather this utility is better or that.As far as the computer is running well do not use any program or utility as such. There are lots of programe that they offer various new facility to improve the speed of your computer .some progame create a new problem and atlast we formate the whole disk and put the new system on it.Instead use two operating system One for your important work and other for your entertainment perpose where you install new programs or games and uninstall it when you dislike it or to free the disk space.

Registry cleaners work, kind of.

by billinn - 6/6/09 7:03 PM In reply to: Do computer Registry cleaners really work? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Of course RegCure is going to find errors. They want to sell you the program. Windows rebuilds the registry constantly. I use "Eusing Free" registry cleaner and it seems to work well at no cost. Don't put all you eggs in one basket though. Download and use "ERUNT", (also free). Don't neglect to delete old ERUNT files. They use a lot of disk space and don't go away on their own.

ERUNT and NTREGOPT

by rbsjrx - 6/6/09 8:53 PM In reply to: Registry cleaners work, kind of. by billinn

ERUNT is useful enough, but avoid its companion NTREGOPT. It's one well-meaning registry cleaner that really can wreak havoc on your system.

"Do computer registry cleaners, Really work?"

by Lukn - 6/6/09 9:04 PM In reply to: Do computer Registry cleaners really work? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I 'll start by saying This,,"that huge count of errors Is to get you to buy a paid program"!!!

Now lets address the body of your question,, "No two programs, of Any type; find, declare, exhibit, Nor fix, Any of the same problems, All will fix a number of the same problems! Nuff said. "example" I use CCleaner "free", I use Glary Util's "free", And I have an "older paid" version of Reg Mechanic(which I use once every 3 months. And I periodicly test trial programs to compare with and Always remain with the "free" programs!!! Anythang that the free programs 'wont' clean, is to neligible to be concerned with, I 've found that during the every 3 month clean, there are Rarely more than 2-3 "Missed" registry items! As for "creating More problems" I 've Not found that to be a problem or true, Yet!
I build computers for Seniors, Soo, I Have to have competent, easy to use, concise programs, Go with CNETs many offered "Free" Utility Programs, I find that If you Regularily "clean", "defragment", and "delete",, Those "free" ones work fine, might help you to weed thur a few utility programs first though!!!

Hope this helps.

ALL TRY TO GET MONEY OUT OF US.

by orquiflora - 6/7/09 1:57 AM In reply to: Do computer Registry cleaners really work? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

SAME PROBLEM HERE. I'M CONFINCED THAT THEY ALL TRY TO PERSUADE US TO BUY A CERTAIN PROGRAM JUST TO MAKE A QUICK BUCK. WITH ME TOO, ONE FREE PROGRAM CLEANS ALL ERRORS, WHILE ANOTHER ONE, A TRIAL ONE, AFTER A SCAN IS SAYING THAT I HAVE OVER 300 PROBLEMS AND TO CLEAN THEM ALL I HAVE TO BUY THEIR PROFFESIONAL SOFTWARE. ALL IS BUSINESS HERE ON INTERNET.

Computer Registry cleaners - hummmmm

by TryOuts4U - 6/7/09 3:40 AM In reply to: Do computer Registry cleaners really work? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

The registry is not as scary as they are made out to be.
Cleaners - they work - as much as they can???

Registry cleaners all want you to use there products.
Your computer is as diffrent to other computers as is your home to others.
Your home is - 'your computer' - What do you want to clean?

If you are that concerned about your registry then take a good look at it.
Just taking a look is not going to hurt anything. - brouse - and take note.

There are some good cleaners out there - but 'Not ONE' of them cleans it all. Because every computer is difrent.

If you want to know your computer - (your home) do your homework. Ask the net. Google it. whatever it takes.

Yes, they work!

by alan_1000 - 6/7/09 3:44 AM In reply to: Do computer Registry cleaners really work? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Registry cleaners perform two important functions.

The first and more important is that they clean out pathological or dysfunctional entries which may be slowing your system or even causing crashes and corrupting files.

The second and less important is that they clear out old, useless entries which are no longer needed. However, since these will seldom or never exceed 1% of the total, you are unlikely to notice an improvement in performance from this source alone.

As an example of what I am calling a pathological entry: I once installed a download accelerator program, and set it as my default download manager. Subsequently I uninstalled it, but this did not remove all the relating registry entries. Consequently, whenever I tried to download, Windows would waste time looking for the uninstalled program, and finally return an error message without downloading anything at all.

The reason different registry cleaners return different results is that no two are written with exactly the same search parameters in mind. For this reason, if you want a thorough cleaning job, you should run at least two or three different cleaners on a weekly basis. I've been doing this for more than a decade and never experienced any ill effects.

Do not be alarmed by stories you may have heard about the alleged damage that registry cleaners cause. These stories are urban myths. If you are really worried about it, stick to name-brand products like Ashampoo WinOptimizer, CCleaner, WinASO or Glary Utilities. These are long-established, well developed, stable, and reliable products, and enterprise pays hard cash to use them. They wouldn't survive if they didn't work.

Do computer Registry Cleaners really work

by john s clark - 6/7/09 4:05 AM In reply to: Do computer Registry cleaners really work? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I don't know how they work but Uniblue's RegistryBooster appears to do a giid job. Before purchasing I took advise from a couple of my guru friends and they said it was good. It runs automatically when I boot up and 6 times out of 10 it calls for a few files to be cleaned. So far no trouble - touch wood.

Registry Booster

by rbsjrx - 6/7/09 6:13 AM In reply to: Do computer Registry Cleaners really work by john s clark

I, too, used Registry Booster until last year. I never had any particular problems with it, but I was put off by the cost and the annoyance of being on Uniblue's mailing list. I did some research and came up with a short list of replacements to try. I wound up with IObit's Advanced System Care (ASC), which I subsequently upgraded to the Pro version to give me the automatic protection I was used to with Registry Booster, but was still $10 less expensive. IObit had previously caught my attention because of their free defrag utility which I installed on my daughter's PC (I use Diskeeper on my and my wife's PCs) after comparing it to Glary and Auslogics.

So far, ASC has proved at least as reliable as Registry Booster and also includes a junk files cleaner and spyware removal tool as well, both of which also run automatically. I've been running it long enough by now to recommend it, as I've noticed several others here have done as well.

Get a life rbsjrx

The amount of replies you have posted here has made it very difficult to find the ones with valuable contributions to make. Once is usually enough, a second to clarify things for someone, and then silence from the monkey gallery. We don't need to hear the same babble over and over again whether it is right OR wrong.

Do computer Registry cleaners really work?

by jeffhodgin1986 - 6/7/09 6:35 AM In reply to: Do computer Registry cleaners really work? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Computer Registry Cleaner/Repair 99% of the Software suppliers are
using this Tactics to sell their products, and some even advertise
free Download and Repair, That is to tell you, downloading their
product are FREE and Repair, you have to purchase the software or Pro
version.
Take Note, Whenever you download and Install any Software/Hardware, Read very carefully what is written under the Licence Term, what wares it is and you will not be misguided if you have read this item.
Nearly most of the product include in the Fix(clean) list which you can compare between different companies.
I have tried RegCure, they list their product as the Number #1 (one) but I will not even give them one point for their dirty tricks.
Their are many popular cleaners, some of them are freeware like Argente, Advanced, Auslogics, Wise, Windows and Zilla.
One Last tip, never use a Trial Ware, otherwise you will receive their daily email.
