Pimp my (insert gadget name here) trend coming?...
I saw this post and thought, perhaps a trend is coming:

The previously-rumored phone represents the first model in the company's new Grand Line, which introduces a new industrial design distinct from its other two lines, but let's concentrate on what's really going on here: it's a dressed-up E71. Mobiado has taken a great (and great-looking) smartphone that can be easily had for under $300 and applied enough sapphire, stainless steel, and mother-of-pearl to raise the sticker well into "if you have to ask" territory.

Thoughts? What gadget would you like aesthetically upgraded?

...among a certain type of person. Mostly Russian, Chinese, and many other people who have yet to develop taste.
There are more humble examples of such 'trends'. Cars for example. Platform-sharing has been a trend for ages. Similarly, manufacturers which have 'leased' premium brands - take Leica's point and shoots which are basically rebodied and slightly reprogrammed Panasonics.
yeah, I see what you mean...but...
what if it could be done cost-effectively? like for an additional ~20% of the price of the gadget, would you spring for it?

Since I bought a Leica D-Lux 4 over a Panasonic LX3, I'll leave you to answer that question ![]()
