I have the Sony STR-DG 820:

I intend to buy the Energy Take Classic 5.1 Speaker system that includes a subwoofer:

The receiver has a mono RCA output for the subwoofer. The subwoofer has a stereo RCA input. How do I reconcile this and optimize quality?
I'm obviously putting together a moderately priced/quality system. Please don't tell me I'm wasting my time with these components. Open to other comparable speaker package suggestions though.
Thanks in advance for the help.
There are dual-coil sub-woofers out there that are meant to take a left and right input that drive each coil, I am not sure if that is the case with this sub. When you don't have a LFE mono sub output on your reciever, this sometimes is there to allow you to get the bass infor from both channels, your Sony has LFE mono so you should not need this as far as I know and likely the manual for the sub will tell you which you should plug this in to, left or right.
I have also seen, well heard of, a lot of folks that use a Y-Cable to hook their mono sub out to a stereo sub in, I have no idea if that is a good plan or not but off the top of my head I would think it is not a good idea.
Thanks for the input. Yeah, my first instinct was to use a Y cable but I read on a few other forums that this could cause issues, phase issues.
Your note about looking in the speaker manual is a good one. Perhaps the Energy website has info on this kind of hook-up. Thanks again.
