Hi: I have posted this problem at the Avant forum (which is down half the time) and another forum but have yet to receive one reply.
I have a laptop and desktop, both XPs. The desktop is fine, but recently I got a sudden problem with the laptop where every time I open Avant I have to sign on to websites. Even after that and I open a new tab at the same site I also have to sign in with that tab. FF does not do this; it works fine.
I've checked the Avant settings between the two computers and everything seems to be the same. SOMETHING must be different though.
Any ideas? Could it be firewall settings?
Avant V. 11.7, build 31 on both PCs; laptop has Avast firewall, desktop has Zone Alarm.
Cookies are small files stored by your browser to maintain session information, such as your login status on a particular website. If they are blocked/deleted, you will have to repeatedly sign in, and in some cases may never progress beyond the sign in page.
Assuming Internet Explorer works fine (Avant uses Internet Explorer as its base), go Tools->Avant Browser Options->Clear Records and make sure the Cookies box is unchecked. Also, check all of your security & maintenance software (antivirus, CCleaner, et cetera) and ensure that cookies have been excluded from the cleanup process.
Hope this helps,
John
Got it fixed, thanks!
I checked the cookies setting within Avant and the box was unchecked, so I shut the firewall off, didn't help, anti virus same thing.
I use Firefox as my primary browser, so I never thought to check IE until you mentioned that Avant uses it as its base. I set the security setting in IE down one notch and now Avant works great.
Thanks again!
Something must have changed recently. I too can't access the website www.avantbrowser.com at least for the for the last hours.
Please check access RIGHT NOW and report here. Thank you !!
I have tried Internet Explorer, AvantBrowser, Firefox with Windows XP.
Also tried Firefox within Ubuntu !
I acces any website I want, except for www.avantbrowser.com
I don't recall having changed critical settings recently. I even promoted the website to be listed as a "safe site".
It's not your browser, the site itself has been off and on for the last several days.
Without you guys, I could have wasted even much more time in searching for wrong settings on my PC !!
Eventually the site will recover, but I'm very disappointed....
A month ago, I tried several times to reach Avant's forum but it couldn't be acessed, altough other pages on the website were available.
I informed the author, Mr. Che Anderson, by email (tagged urgent) but my email didn't get any reply.
All things considered, and adding the fact AB closes itself all too often or freezes, I seriously doubt if I will continue to use it as my favorite browser.
Merel: I much prefer Firefox myself. It has been my default browser for probably 5 years now and will remain so.
For information only :
At this moment the website of the "fastest browser on earth"
is back on duty and operational (also the forum tab works again)
But at first sight I don't see any mention of the crash or some apology for the inconvenience caused.
They have had trouble maintaining a functional website nearly since they first launched the browser, and it appears they are having problems again as their servers are completely offline at this time. They produce a decent Internet Explorer shell and do have a "safe site," but their support capabilities are often bottom-of-the-barrel and Avant is still plagued by most of Internet Explorer's flaws since it uses Internet Explorer as a base.
John
John, thanks for that tidbit. I went there for the first time a few days ago to post my problem, so I have no knowledge of their site
before that time.
And I did not know they were so tied to IE, that's good to know.
Thanks again for all your help!

Today (July 17, 2009)I tried to reach Avant Browser Forum.
No luck .... just during the half time that this forum is still being down ? The website is reached, but it stops downloading at 50 %, even using AB , "The Fastest Web Browser On Earth"
