and it has been all down hill since then. Of course, I quarantined it. But, one day I accidently unplugged my Broadband connection and found another occurance of my browser runing too. Plus, there are other things I can't change in my OS (WIN Vista). Like, I can't make my file directories private (the choice is dulled). Is this possible to take control of someon's computer this way and how do you get back your computer?

Hi,
If you suspect that there is known malware, scan the system using your up-to-date antivirus or using online scanner like Housecall, ESET Online Scan, Kaspersky Online Scanner, F-Secure etc.
If you think there's something or someone controlling your PC, I suggest to change the password of your internet connection (check your ISP's documentation on how to change your password). Change also the password of your Windows logon but if you don't have, please create one.
As to making your directories private in Windows Vista, you will need to base this per user account. In sharing tab of a directory, you will need to choose which user has access to particular folder.
Another method is to encrypt the files and folders but this option is not available in Vista Home Basic and Premium edition.
Try third party applications to make your folder private, if you don't have other user account.
Thanks for answering my post Donna. If I make changes to OS and Internet can't the malware/remote administrator capture these changes and counter them? Just like a key logger? Plus, can't they nulify any malware too? Especially if you are a remote administrator?
Thanks again
and should change the password of your internet connection using another computer or let your ISP reset it for you.
Also you will need to make that the file sharing is not enabled and if you have to enable it, you need to check the permission.
Best is to check whether there's malware or any type of keylogger, trojan, spyware et al that will monitor. Any non-rogue malware scanner should be tried to scan the system (anti-virus, anti-trojan, anti-dialer, anti-worm, anti-keylogger, anti-rootkit or anti-malware).

Not if the malware scanner or remote administrator has been cut-off in accessing your computer. Safe mode scan and safe mode boot should stop any remote connection as long as you are booting the system without network. You can change also the settings in Vista to disable remote services unless you need it enabled.
