I am currently running a 1TB MyBook usb, a Maxtor 750 usb, A Western Digital 500G and 3 Western Digital 1TB "green" drives, all under 1 year
Quantum Fireball as40.0 ( 40 gb.)(7 years old) and a wdc ac31200f (1.18 gb.) (about 10 years old. Both seem to work really well.
I use a E-machine (w4685 ) it is over 4 years old with 80gb, an 512mb ram still wors fine
Actually I have Four Internal drives and three external.
I am a gamer. ![]()
All my Internals are Western Digital...
1x 1TB SATA
2x 320GB SATA
1x 500GB SATA
Externals are...
1x 120GB IDE Western Digital (5 years old)
1x 320GB SATA " " (6 months old)
1x 200GB IDE Seagate (5 years old)
I have a WD 750G Black edition in use as my main drive and a Samsung spinpoint 1T as a backup external drive. The WD was purchased last month along with the Samsung. I will change both drives in 18 months. That way I have never had a drive fail. The external drive is in a case with a fan and runs at 33C and the internal WD runs at 31C. Both are SATA 2 drives.
500gb Seagate HD at around 1yr. old. It replaced a 120gb WD HD that was 3yrs. old. Now, the 500gb is working great and so far no glitches and I like the 5yr. warranty period.
Anything below 20gb gets tossed or seriously considered for that or recycling. They're noisy anyways, alot of the time. -----Willy ![]()
20 MB IBM - 8 years old
80 MB WD - 4 years old
This is my current working computer, running Win 2000 on a 600 MHZ P4 with 786 MB Ram. Think I got my money's worth.
About to retire entire system & replace with Core 2 Duo, 4 MB Ram, three 160 MB WD drives, and will run 32 bit XP, Vista, and Ubuntu. ![]()
I don't know about brands of hard drives, but I've been using an HP Pavilion 6000 laptop, with 80GB hard drive and 512MB System memory since early '07... I use the computer mainly for e-mail, E-bay, photo posting and plain-old surfing in general, which means that I am largely irrelevant compared to those who use their computers for Huge Mighty Business-related stuff. I'm sure my computer is antiquated by this year's standards, but it just keeps right on truckin', despite the fact that I have birds, which means that more than just a few seed kernels have become embedded in the keyboard over the years (a Tekkie nightmare for sure). Sometimes when I press a key, I hear "crrrunch", so I turn the computer upside down, shake it (gently) a few times, the seed shell(s) fall(s) out and so far, my 'puter is still alive n' kickin'. Even tho my hard-drive is only 80GB, I am still amazed at download speeds with my notebook, as opposed to the (dinosaur) desktop I used to have, with dial-up. I do like my wireless. It spoils me...
Must be a little tired.
All the drives listed in my previous post are GB, not MB.
120GB Hitachi (IBM) DeskStar, between 7 and 8 years old.
The average usage is aprox. 12 Hrs./day, 365 days/year.
The last 2 years, the unit has been powered 24/7 with
seasonal power interruptions for brief periods of time.
Under these conditions, Western Digital, Seagate, Maxtor
and Fujitsu only last 6 months to slightly over a year.
Compaq Presario, 140GB HD,AMD Sempron 3400+, 1.99GHz, Six years old and still crankin'
I've had a Samsung 80 GB IDE drive running since 2003, used every day.
I shut it down at night and boot in the morning.
