External monitor for my laptop
by koojoe31 - 5/28/09 8:37 AMI have an hp tx2000 laptop with an Nvidia 6 series graphics card and when I try and hook up my external monitor so that the display is only on it, the monitor (Insignia NS-LCD22-09) displays an error that the VGA mode is not supported. I only get this error when I try to use it as my only display. I can have mirrored monitors or extended desktop just fine. I have the latest Nvidia drivers installed and have the refresh rate at 60 hertz with a resolution of 1680x1200 , which is what the monitor (TV) is designed for.

I’d suggest you talk with Nvidia’s support. Here’s the link: http://www.nvidia.com/page/support.html. Since there's no official support for the RC, your best bet is going to Nvidia right now.

I have an HP dv7-1000x that I just received in November and when I plug any kind of external monitor the video card can't process the information and I get blue screens. My card is an ATI HD3450, which is relatively new and it can't keep up. If my memory serves me right Windows won't let you use an external monitor as your primary with a laptop. What you can do is run it in extended mode, keep your taskbar on the main monitor and when you open a program move it to the external monitor. You may find that some programs don't support it. Games, media players and anything graphics intensive will have fits.
