Good but time is of the essence.

The 64 beta version is interesting but it needs time to be as great as it promises. It`s really unstable and need some patches for quad processors, at least AMD. The architecture is rather simple nice and friendly, and I don`t know how but some 32bit programs run without any problem.
The resources needed for this OS are higher than the ones needed for Vista. The 64bit is a rocket but Microsoft always promises gold, but this gold needs at least a year to be true gold. But more important than that is to have all the programs you need and want running at 64bit. For 32bit the top is Vista Ultimate (The only Vista that works fine). If you are going to change your OS take the big step.

64 bit version.

I haven't tried the 64 bit version of Windows Seven, though I have been considering doing the upgrade install on my laptop to replace Vista 64 bit be cause I am running into some frustrations with it. I have also thought about downloading the beta of Vista's Sp2. I really don't want to upgrade with a beta version of Windows but the thing is, I have got the 32 bit version on my older computer and it runs about as good on an Athlon XP 2000+ system with 2GB RAM as 64 bit Vista does on my laptop which is an AMD Turion X2 RM-70 System with 4GB RAM and 250 GB HD. There are some games and the like that I can get to run on the 32 bit version of Seven that I can't get to run on Vista 64 bit and there is one that runs on Window's Seven 32 bit beta that I can't even get to run on XP 32 bit, I mean something that actually should run on XP. Oh well not sure what I will do.

Junk

I'm not a computer guy. I'm a businessman that was very interested in upgrading my operating system. When Microsoft offered the opportunity to test the 7 beta I thought it would be a good experience. I couldn't have been more wrong.

I was very carefull to put the beta on a partition that just had some backup data and, assumed, (woops) that my primary system would stay #1 in the boot order. Wrong. The beta took over the boot order and everything else. I was able to get the xp drive open so no big deal. Once I got passed that, I began expolring 7. As I said, I'm a businessman and have a lot of very reliable, very valuable, software that I use on a daily basis. None of it would work with 7. I meand NONE. 7 would not load my video drivers, even though they were supposed to be compatible, therefor I couldn't even play a game of cards. I tried contacting Microsoft, via the built in feedback shortcut but never got a single reply. I finally decided that they only wanted to hear from the "yippie it looks cool" people. Then I tried the internet, using the built in explorer 8 and guess what. You guessed it, many of the business sites I went to would not open in 8.

I believe that windows 7, if it's not way different from the beta, is another attempt by Micorsoft to force feed its software to the world, at a hight price, and totally disregard any sence of social responsibility.

Finally, I attempted to reinstall a version of XP pro but could not. The partition would not format. I tried 7 times and got the same failure notice each time. It appears that 7 doesn't like to go away, even when asked to leave. The only way to get rid of it was to delete the partition and then do a new install of xp. That has caused its own set of headaches.

For anyone that has read this far, I strongly suggest you suppor any, and I do mean any, open source people that are using their talents to provide quality software.

Well, you asked. <smile>

-> You can change the boot order using the built-in functionality or by using free software such as VistaBootPRO. The change is a result of the old NTLDR used by Windows XP being replaced in all future versions.

-> You must reinstall all software on each and every operating system installation in order for it to run. Older (XP and prior) software may need to be run in Compatibility Mode. That goes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, and future versions.

-> There are free beta drivers available from ATI, nVidia, et cetera that you must download for full Windows 7 support.

-> The feedback mechanism is not for support, just feedback. Such feedback is read and generalized for future processing, but not responded to.

-> Yes, IE8 does have known compatibility issues. Hopefully that will be fixed in the near future.

-> The partition formatting issues has been long-standing and is not specific to Windows 7. (Windows XP had it too.) A deletion of the partition is usually recommended anyway, though, and only takes a minute or two to complete.

Windows 7 will be available in Italian at the time of release, but I do not believe there is currently an external beta or RC available in Italian.

Sorry.

It's about time

Microsoft has a reputation for it's less then perfect Operating systems. Included are features that are announced but dont make the release, Releases that are never on time and security issues. Vista being the latest OS was in the opnion of many bloated, required more power then many users had as well as complicated for average users. Now Win 7 will be the next release. I love it so far. It installed without issues (co procceser driver is not available but its an RC)

The interface is easy to learn and the features are not simply useless ones. The audio setup for W 7 is different and somewhat annoying but I can blame Creative for its slow response with beta drivers..But I had to laugh because my webcam in which Creative chose not to release Vista drivers for works (limited) with it's XP driver.

Loyal XP users will need to upgrade at some point and I say go to W7.

Should MS offer free upgrades? No they are a business and did they upgrade to Vista for free? No

Installation lag

by opjones - 5/16/09 3:32 AM In reply to: Windows 7, please enlighten me with your opinions on this to be released OS by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Intel Pentium 4 (2.80 GHz)
RAM installed: 4096 MB DDR SDRAM
ATI FireGL V3100
Windows XP Pro

After my initial installation of Windows 7 I turned on my Sirius internet streamer while I went thru installing the rest of my every day programs. I found out there was a lot of lag going on as I was installing, downloading and browsing thru a windows explorer. I was hearing, and seeing, the lag going on thru my Sirius streaming music. It would start skipping like a scratched CD whenever I was starting a new operation and had something else going on in the background. This is something I did not run into thru many installations of Windows XP, and this was not a fault of slow internet connection.

Besides that issue I am really enjoying working with windows 7 and the fun new features.

One thing you need to know...

by His SHadow - 5/24/09 8:07 AM In reply to: Windows 7, please enlighten me with your opinions on this to be released OS by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Windows 7 is Vista. Windows 7 is nothing more than a rebranding attempt. In the 7 or 8 years since XP, none of the advanced features that Vista was supposed to have made it into Vista. Longhorn never materialized. Now we have people actually believing Microsoft cranked out a brand new OS in 2 years when they couldn't make Vista the Next Gen OS in 7?

My point? If it didn't work for you under Vista, it won't work for you under Vista Service Pack 3... errr, Windows 7.

And...?

by FrankQC - 5/24/09 9:20 AM In reply to: One thing you need to know... by His SHadow

It still operates faster than Vista. More features or not its higher performance.

Besides that they made it look like KDE which is pathetic in my honest opinion.

Very nice OS

by rgfitz - 5/24/09 1:55 PM In reply to: Windows 7, please enlighten me with your opinions on this to be released OS by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I will probably switch to it from Windows XP in a year or two.

Now, however, it occasionally fails to recognize my Atheros AR 5007UG Wireless Network Adapter. A little reddish blob appears over my network icon and the adapter does not show in Device manager. Everything else seems to work.

Then Windows 7 won't shutdown. I shut it down manually and upon restart, I choose "start Windows normally" and it invariably runs fine.

Windows 7 & More

by Maged_0003 - 6/11/09 8:10 AM In reply to: Windows 7, please enlighten me with your opinions on this to be released OS by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Hi Every One

First let me apologies to you all, I was out there completing my study and finally after 3 months of more than 16Hour/day I earned two MS Certificates MCITP and MCTS....waw

As for MS Windows 7 Focus, Microsoft has open new door to the OS future & Technology, i can slow down and Minimize my resource to 512Mb of RAM and Ms Windows 7 Runs Unusual.... Better than the Old MS Windows Versions XP and Vista in Performance.

I think Microsoft market will seen HUGE growth after 22 Dec 2009, after been using the Beta Version and Moved to The Windows 7 RC...Lately

It is amazing in file Sharing, Better Security and Best Performance in Networking and Administration, mentioning the Troubleshoot and performance monitoring of Windows 7.

The Control Panel become more functional and easy to use, the GU Interface is wonderful and with more options in screen Objects.

And the Good News its compatibility with Windows Vista Drivers and now each Vendor are starting to support the MS windows 7 Drivers, Starting with Intel,Nvidia, Broadcome and Gigabyte ….. IBM Lenovo “Some Products", HP and More Others.

Then if you have a problem with your Machine Drivers.... instead of the Hardware vendor website…. MS Windows 7 Help you to update and Gets your HW Drivers online from Microsoft Website itself from the Windows 7 Solution Center.

Now you got it all the support from Microsoft and the HW Vendor of your Machine.

My Advice to you:" Choose it ... Use it ... Don't Lose it".

Better OS than vista

by viastain - 10/23/09 1:00 AM In reply to: Windows 7, please enlighten me with your opinions on this to be released OS by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

From my personal experience trying the beta, there is no doubt that win 7 is much better than vista. Vista is a failure OS.
I think it's more fair to compare win 7 with win XP.
