I'm running Vista and IE7 and I'm not having any problems with my system at this time. I'm just debating on whether or not to download IE8. I like to keep my system current, which is really the only reason why I want to install it. Any benefits? Risks?
Thanks in advance for your opionions.
Bridget
I keep getting a box that comes up when going on the internet that gives me options to download it. I already have it -- I downloaded via Windows Updates. I made a post on this looking for ideas and no one responded.
Do you have any suggestions Kees on how to get rid of that stupid box?
Thanks,
Julea
IE8 offers increased security, automatic recovery from crashed sessions, support for web slices, the ability to hide your tracks while browsing (In-Private mode), and much more. You can click here for more information on Microsoft's latest browser.
However, there have been some complaints about installation woes, increased crashes, and some websites and third-party applications not being compatible with IE8, forcing them to return to IE7. Thus, I recommend upgrading, but running through your usual routine and performing a System Restore as soon as possible if you find IE8 causes problems in your unique setup.

Bridget,
Hi my name’s Feran and I am working with the Internet Explorer Outreach Team to help provide assistance to folks about their Internet Explorer.
I just wanted to share some great resources with you that will help you learn more about IE8 and its new and enhanced security and reliability features.
You can learn more by checking out the Microsoft website: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx?ocid=ie8_sm_a or IEBlog: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/ . If you do decide to get it, you can download it from the first link as well.
This is also a good site to give you a better idea of IE8 and see how it differs from IE7 http://www.ie8demos.com/tryit/
I hope this helps!
Feran,

My experience has been a disaster! On various websites, including my own, IE8 totally freezes my computer and I have to use ctrl-alt-del to free it. I tried the IE7 emulation, but no difference. A 2 hour conversation with Microsoft seemingly solved the problem, but 2 days later it started again. Microsoft were unable to help any further. IE7 and Firefox work perfectly, so I have now changed over to Firefox.
My experience with IE8, using XP Pro, has'nt been that good. Constant crashing, (it recovers itself, but so what), and it's way slower browsing than Firefox. I'm sticking with Firefox.
Stick with IE7.I've just downloaded IE8 on a pc running vista but it wont let me connect to any web pages. It keeps closing the program because of data protection, even though i have changed all the settings on my pc.Have now gone back to IE7 which is working as normal.
I’m really sorry to hear all the problems you are having. While I am not tech support, if you could give me a little more detailed info about what you are experiencing along with what computer/operating system you are using etc.. I can see what I can do.
Also, I would first suggest trying to uninstall then reinstall IE8.

Feran, I posted the original message, and after reading the replies I decided not to install it at all. It seems like most people are having problems with it. I read all about it on the Microsoft website and it sounds great, but I don't want to take any chances of having problems when I don't need to. Are there some known issues running IE8 with Vista? I have never tried any of the other browsers...I've used IE since the internet first came out. I've ALWAYS upgraded, but this is the first time I'm really hesitating. After all, I jumped onboard buing a new computer with VISTA when I should have just been content with what I had.
Bridget
Bridget,
IE8 is compatible with Windows Vista so there should be no issues. If you do run into issues I would suggest uninstalling, then reinstalling IE8 – in my experience this has helped many people. As far as compatibility goes, there is a Compatibility View feature in IE8 that resolves any rendering issues.
Here are some more articles about IE8, mainly about its enhanced security features, which may help you: http://www.pcworld.com/article/161587/is_ie8_actually_safer.html and

Dear ie8 team--
Maybe you have some suggestions on how I can get my computer fixed after my disastrous attempt to install ie8. Not only would it not open--ever--but I can no longer access ie7 OR internet options. tried system restore, with no change. This is the worst mess i've had in years. I'm running xp home on a compac presario, and everything was great until this installation. Thank goodness I have other browsers on my computer.
As Julea said, instead of doing a system restore, you should uninstall IE8 (this reverts you to IE7) - then you can try reinstalling IE8 again. Sometimes doing an uninstall/reinstall fixes any issues people were having in IE8. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/support/faq.aspx
Also, for anyone experiencing lagging in IE8 as Julea mentioned, you may need to manage your add-ons (tools, manage add-ons, enable or disable). Disabling unnecessary add-ons may help your Internet run faster.

When I went to add/remove programs, there was NO internet explorer listed at all. This was after a system restore. Maybe that's why it won't run. I'm reinstalling ie7--ie8 seems to be not yet ready for prime time.
On Vista it's fine; however, I d/l it to my XP and it ran terribly slow for me. It took at least a minute to even open the internet and it took almost 2 minutes for a .jpg or .gif image to open in IE8.
I learned the hard way though -- I did a system restore to previous evening thinking it would take me back to IE7 When I did, I could no longer even access the internet. I would go on and I could see the URL for our home page and the menu bar; however, beneath that was white page and it flicked off faster than you could say boo! It was like something was blocking it. Sooooooooooo, I did another restore to the previous Sunday -- WRONG!!!! Same thing as far as accessing the internet -- it just wouldn't work.
I ended up calling Microsoft and they were very kind to get IE7 back up and running for me. I should not have done a system restore, but uninstalled IE8 instead. What do I know (LOL)! Anyway, they walked me through a fix and for the present, I'm sticking with IE7. It's much faster than IE8 was. I don't know what that issue is about -- it's probably the same reason I get often times ---- "...on some pc's this happens." Seems like I'm always in the "some" category.
If it aint broke, don't fix it -- at least for now! Live and learn.
