Hello I really hope someone can help me, I'm running windows xp and using virgin media as my ISP and cannot connect.
I've rang their tech support who advised that I unplug and replace some cables- no joy, and my modem suggests that I am connected, as does network connections (local area network connected).
We eventually assertained that all my ip address details have dissapeared, at which point the tech guys advised that I either call out an engineer,or ring their £1 a minute helpline. they seem to think that its something to do with my tcp/ip protocol?
The only thing that i've done that may have caused this is that I had to turn off my PC without going throught the shutdown process. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

Given no details it's unlikely anyone can guess what's up.
Hint? No make/models of the gear involved. How it's all connected, etc.

OK that's great. I'll have to get that info when i get home tonight (i'm at work)and post it tommorow. If any one has any advice now that would be great though, I've got a compaq presario, and my ISP is a cable provider. erm... the modem is a realtek one i dont know of any of this helps? thanks anyway.
Right so I've had a bit of a browse, and I've seen something using the cmd prompt window... ipconfig/release then ipconfig/renew. hopefully this will work. If not I'll get back to you tomorrow with more details.
