Hi y'all!
I'm a bit out of my league here and I could really use some thorough advice. I am a Peace Corps Volunteer living in Kazakhstan. I teach English in a small village school. Our floors may be falling in and our kids don't have books, but the government believes it "looks good" to install interactive boards and computer labs in every school in the country. It is useful, but unfortunately most schools can't handle the hardware. They just don't have the training or resources.
My particular problem is this...
Our English teachers have a computer in our office. It was given as a donation from the States. I have forbid any flash drives from being inserted into the computer because viruses are an HUGH problem. There is no Internet in my village. I don't have a lot of money to spend on buying anti-virus software and I wouldn't be able to update it anyway because there is no Internet. I have been researching free antivirus programs, but some of them require access to the Internet, etc. Flash drives are the problem, that is how the viruses are spread.
Have you got any recommendation for this particular situation? The open-source anti virus software is wonderful for my school's computers, but having NO access to the Internet is a major problem. Perhaps I should look into anti virus software for flash drives?
I would appreciate any advice you can give. I go into the city with my laptop twice a week for a little Internet time, therefore I will check back for responses but it may take a while!
You can download avg. avast or kapersky free. You dont like flash drives then put in on a cd w and use it. But if you dont have internet you will have to get it there someway. or try a brand new flash drive and use it for known good av programs and nothing else.
hey i have a computer that is extremely imbedded with viruses and i do not know how to get rid of them. the viruses are not letting me to get on the internet een through the internet is hook up and running and it also shut down my other anitvirus and wont let me run a virus scan. So here is my question i was wondering is there anything out there that is FREE that i can use to be able to get rid of the viruses? your help is greatly welcomed. please help i dont know what to do Thanks matt
I would get and install the following programs on your computer and scan.
Super anti spyware:

Malwarebyte's anti-malware:

Threatfire for your antivirus:

Also if you seeing as your "virus" is blocking your internet install the programs onto a a blank cd disk and do it that way. Another thing have you downloaded anything recently that might have caused this problem? Think back and if you still need more help please make another thread. It's easier for people to help that way.
...you'll need to have an internet connection somewhere so you can download the virus definitions.. A number of antivirus programs have the ability to be updated manually.. After installation on the computer, the virus definitions can be downloaded elsewhere, burned to a CD or flash drive, then transferred to the remote computer and installed..
If you don't install the updates occasionally, at least once a week, then you have an antivirus program that is worthless. But since you apparently have internet access twice a week on your laptop, you could easily download the updates, then transfer them to the school's machine.
Avira free download link:

Hope this helps.

I am just curious if you could disable your USB ports? I know the Moderators here would know more about this and if it is a feasible solution for the lack of internet.
