I m a little bit confused about doing any Internet security suite. Currently I m having ZoneAlarm Security suite and now i want to switch to some other. I want my PC to be speedy as well as protected. Can anybody suggest any full security suite that uses less system resources and performs its activities well.
I want to ask that there is a security suite by eset also nut i dont know about its firewall strength.
I want the name of a full suite except pc-cillin, norton and mcafee. Rest anyone that is a reputed software
Install a linux distro or a BSD release and go for the default of nothing enabled except basic services. Security at paranoid and disk encryption.
Kaspersky Internet Security Suite - http://www.kaspersky.com
AVG Internet Security Suite - http://www.grisoft.com
Outpost Security Suite - http://www.agnitum.com
CA Internet Security Suite - http://www.ca.com
Avira Premium Security Suite - http://www.avira.com
BitDefender Suite (there is security suite and total security suite) - http://www.bitdefender.com
and many more
Thanks for the reply but i have decided now to keep my zone alarm firewall pro active adn disable the antivirus and antispyware.
So now i have stopped searching for a full security suite and now only looking for an antivirus with antispyware.
So, I m now looking at the three products- Norton 2008, Kaspersky and Bitdefender.
Out of these which will provide the best protection.
As i m in a habit of regularly downloading items without much checking, so which one will suite me.
I have kept aside avg and ca because their effectiveness is lesser (acc. to av-comparatives.org and VB 100) as compared to the above three.
Avira I am not prefering as i am looking for its next releasee which is going to be in april or may (having improved graphics and better engine). So please pick of the best of those three i mentioned, remembering that they dont eat up much of my ram.
Also can you tell that is NAV 2008 nearly as light as Bitdefender Antivirus 2008 or Kaspersky.
Norton is currently using 3,900KB of memory here (that is total of 3 processes that is actively running).
NOD32 v2 is lighter. NOD32 v3 is using more resources than its v2 due to ekrn.exe and if web control is enabled in addition to antivirus and antispyware.
I have not try KAV but I tried KIS. KIS is using more than 6,000KB when I tried it. It has web-protection also.
I have not tried the new version of BitDefender.
Please note that it depends on what feature of the antivirus is enabled and disabled. Some users is seeing higher memory usage by antivirus is the antivirus is configure to the 'max' and if there are many scheduled or non-scheduled tasks to be run by the antivirus.
I personally disable some task that I don't need since I'm online often and I do it manually (scan, update). Not recommended to users who is forgetful to scan or update their program or to all users who wish to receive important protection definitions by the antivirus vendor (e.g. threats in the wild detections update).
I have read ur post dat norton has an IM scanner, but itz not da only 1.
Zone alarm security suite also has an IM scanner.
I hav nw decided to go for norton but a little bit of confusion iz still there in my mind. That whether i should get NIS or NAV. As i m already having zonealarm firewal. So is norton's firewal as effective as zonealarm's. And so if i go 4 nav, with zond alarm firewal, then will i get any compatibility prblms?
It's been many years since I last tried ZA.
If you will get NIS, you will need to disable its firewall. That is if your firewall in ZA Suite is enabled.
If you want NAV, you will need to disable the Internet Worm Protection in NAV because it works like basic firewall.
2 firewalls can caused conflict because the firewall has global firewall rules, program rules and intrusion detection signatures - IDS (not sure if ZA suite has IDS).
What is blocked or allowed in each other is not the same which is why it's not recommended to use more than 1 firewall at the same time.
Yes, Norton firewall is also effective. You will need to install free add-on for Norton if you want other features privacy control, antispam etc.
Had norton it is a joke. I went to CA because they have an impeckeable firewall, and antivirus. The only reason i wound up with a trojan was i ignored the CA warnings before this download from a un-reliable site. check out their perks first.id theft reembursment & free tech inhome to fix or remove virus if needed. I went for the 1000 dollar idenity theft. was already included in package..
Suckiest Seucirty Suite around, my parents have it, and with all the processes combined it uses nearly 200 mb of ram, it makes their mouse stop moving when you plug in a usb drive, if you want to be back in pentium 2 or even pentium times, then go ahead, but it's definately not worth it, do not get it.
I recommend Norton 360 3.0, you can get the two year version, for cheap, like on ebay, i paid $25 and they sent me a two year key in my email, and it's legit with the company, it's 360 protection, it's VERY VERY light on resources, it uses roughly 2-4 mb constantly, and the best part, it's all automated, so that means, you don't have to scan anything, just leave your computer running whenever you go to thestore, or cleaning the house. which is what i do
and it works great!
there's my opinion
I know you "disbaled" your antivirus and antispyware.
But I believe I have read, you will have a 50/50 chance of having
a problem or conflict if you now install another Antivirus, with out
first somehow uninstalling completely the other one.
Just something to think about or look into.
Love my ca internet security suite. Uses a small program. Full customer support. It's for any os. I had a trojan the tech removed it to a file where i could remove it with control pannel. the security actually quarenteens the virus,or spyware where it may be removed.
Ca Antivirus iz good but itz firewal protection is not up to the mark. Yet, I ll giv a try to its antivirus.
if you are looking for something new i highly recommend mcafee security suite,i,v had it on ,y computer for 3 years and so far not had one problem, good luck
I had tried McAfee last year in december, and da only prblm i faced was slower PC. McAfee has gud protection but it slows down da pc very much as compared to bitdefender or norton 2k8. So i can't try it again.
First let me applaud you for being brave enough to write your question in this forum, as it appears that English is not your first language.
Before you spend your hard earned cash on any of the 'Payware' Security suites, why don't you try installing AVAST as your Anti-Virus program http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html , then install 'Windows Defender' http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx as your Anti-Spyware' and have 'Ad-Aware 2007' http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php as your back-up spyware remover?
The beautiful things about all three of thiese programs are:-
They are very light on your system resources, do their jobs extremely well and they are all FREE !
