Processor

by SINBAD - 4/29/09 10:38 PM

I am trying to find the rpm of my processor. Where do I look to find it?
Another processor question: Device manager shows 2 processors on my computer and they are both the same. Intel (R) Pentium (r) CPU 4 3.20 Ghz. WHat is the reason for 2 of them? Also shouldn't 3.20 Ghz mean it is a fast computer (which it isn't)?
XP Home, Dell Dimension 4700

SINBAD,

Download and install HWMonitor to see the CPU rpms. I have a quad core CPU so it shows four of them in device manager. You have a dual core CPU so you see two. Slow computer could be having too many application loading when windows starts or not enough RAM.

Download and install HWMonitor

Have no idea what you mean by this thing to download. You did not tell me how to do this.
I thought dual core was newer computers and not ones that are 4-5 years old.
Ram was upgraded from 2gb to 3gb about 8 months ago. It is slow not just when starting up but when I am working and using internet to get email and going to different web pages.

Did you click on the link in the post you replied to? That would be a perfect start.

Maybe just your Internet connection is slow, for example dial-up? We can't guess if you don't tell.

it is a single core cpu which has hyper threading

it is a single core cpu which has hyper threading

intels hyper threading will fool the operating system into thinking it really has two cores when it really has only one

cpu's do not have rpm ( revolutions per minutes )

i just worked on a diomension 3000 that was running loud and slow and all i did was change the cpu's thermal paste to ocz freexe and now the cpu fan is quite quiet and seems like it is faster i believe the old paste was dried out and causing a slight over heating problem but it is fixed now

btw the ocz feeze cost 6.06 here in canada after taxes and i should have enough to do ten more so it is was the cheapest solution to try first and if that did not help then i would of looked into a new fan and heat sink as the second step

according to dells website

according to dells website this is the list of supported processors for the Dell Dimension 4700 Series Service Manual

Intel Pentium 4 processor 520, 530, 540, 550, 560, or 570 with HT Technology

Intel Pentium 4 that runs at 2.8, 3.0, 3.2, 3.4, 3.6, and 3.8 GHz internally and 800 MHz externally

all of those are single core cpu's with HT Technology ( HYPER THREADING ) which is why they show as two cores
