modem

Dimension 4700 showes this modem: Intel (r) 537ep v0x dfv pci modem. I am having problems with it. For the first 6 months when I first had this computer my phone answering service worked fine. It came with computer, Classic Phone Tools. After that time when the phone rings and someone starts to leave a message I hear nothing. I am very confused as I was told this was a BVRP modem but it definitely says Intel. I have tried to look up modems and do not find anything on either an Intel or BVRP modem. What do I have? Why does it not work right anymore?

Do you remember what changes you made to the PC prior to it not working?

Doubt if I made any as I do not fool with my computer. BVRP told me that the way it first worked was not right and that the way it is working is the right way. I have never believed what they told me and think there has been something wrong with it. Why would it let me hear the recorded message and then the caller and then suddenly not be able to do this?
