Using desktop customization programs...is it safe?
by milliondollarbbw31 - 4/7/09 10:34 AMI would like to change my vista desktop to look a bit more like a Mac. I don't want to do this permanently, just want to change the design every now and then. Yes, I am the type of person who changes their wallpaper often. 
I have downloaded a couple of programs, but noticed that when I drag a folder from my desktop to the new floating dock, it leaves a semi-transparent image on my desktop. If I delete the remaining image, I can access the file via the dock, but I cannot take the dock item and replace it again on the desktop. So, I am fearful of continuing with the desktop customization for fear I will lose the original file icon.
What program?

If they are just shortcuts then getting the initial icons back on the desktop once deleted would be a simple matter of finding the original file and making a new shortcut on the desktop.

When I tried to drag or copy my icons to the new docking, it copies fine, but leaves behind a slightly see-thru version on my desktop. Certain programs like firefox, I cannot move to other folders to clear up the clutter on my desktop.
A friendly suggestion ...

Sometimes that's helped me. Seems you may have just an after image & the desktop hasn't refreshed itself in awhile.
I can't think of a way to describe that better, so please excuse me if it isn't too helpful.
