However http://www.dslreports.com/faq/6096 tells a lot which is worth knowing.
Maybe the entire NAT ROUTER operation and how that is a firewall of sorts is not known to you but the book on networking will not fit in this small space.
Let's just say it doesn't have your classic firewall as defined by many.

Anyway, I have absolutely no software firewalls running, yet my latest firewall test yielded the following:

Thanks for the link, but now I'm more confused than ever, cuz in the article, it states that "the BellSouth model does not have a built in firewall like the retail version", which is in direct conflict with both BS's claim and my firewall test results, unless I have a retail version, and don't know it.

Let's try to get to the bottom of what you are trying to do. That test is not anything I'd worry about. TELL WHAT YOU NEED TO GET WORKING and let's tackle that.
Here's an example of why a NAT ROUTER (see google) is like a firewall. Unsolicited inbound connections will never make it to the PCs. And unless you start learning about networking, NAT, how routers work and more it will only be confusing.
Rather than be confused, let's find an issue and tackle that.

Well, I guess I'm in the right place seein' as my modem IS hardware.
Anyway, why would I be worried about that test? It says all my service ports are stealth.

Maybe you are in need of some assurance but I can't offer that. I can't guess what you want in the way of a firewall. These are settings and results YOU must decide on. I can't decide for you.

Is there an easy way to disable the Westell 6100 firewall (BellSouth model)? And I get the feeling that the answer is no.
Also, if all my ports are stealth, why would I need assurance?
What firewall is there?

Sorry you'll have to show me the firewall you want disabled.
I noted that NAT ROUTERS by design drop inbound connections due to how it works and some might call that a firewall but there is no disable feature for that.
Since there is no firewall in the device (show me where in the manual) we are done.

If it was not an issue you would not be asking. I see that port test has lead you down a primrose path to an area you would have to learn a lot more than you may need to.
Focus on a problem and solve that. Disabling the firewall would be done for what reason? And since I can't find a firewall listed in the manual I have to ask you to supply the link and page in the manual where I missed it.

I think you're the one making this harder than it has to be. So just forget it. a hardware firewall is most likely better for me anyway. There. I answered my own question. Mr. bigshot IT guy can rest easy now.
