To do List Managers

by not_balanced - 4/18/09 5:52 PM

In your last podcast, you mentioned that the next topic was going to be about todo managers.

I've tried a number of these over the years, mainly to keep track of my tasks at work.

A couple that I've found most useful have been:
1. todotxt.com - A command line inteface script that keeps your todo list in a text file (todo.txt). All completed tasks are in a done.txt file. Originally it was created over at lifehacker.com.
(http://lifehacker.com/5155450/todotxt-cli-manages-your-tasks-from-the-command-line) and has been extended by various developers as an open source project.

2. Todoist.com - this is the todo manager I use now. I found RTM to be much too complicated, and this site has a very simple interface that makes it easy to add/update/complete tasks. I usually run it as a Prism app on my desktop and have it going all the time.

I like the idea of an online todo manager (rather then local) because I can access it from anywhere.

I find having a todo list helpful when I'm updating my yearly work evaluation. I just go through the list of things that I've done to come up with my list of accomplishments.

Thanks for a great podcast,

Craig

Rememberthemilk FTW

Hi Tom & Rafe--

I'm surprised nobody has been on here singing the praises of the venerable RememberTheMilk-- IMHO it's far and away the best task manager of them all because it integrates so well with all my other services. I can email, twitter, or IM tasks to it, I can see it in my iPhone, iGoogle, iCal, and iNterwebs. It even integrates with Quicksilver and Ubiquity so I can easily make sure that everything I want to remember ends up in the RTM. I was even using Jott to post to RTM while I was driving, but when Jott went paid-only, I dropped it for Evernote. I still would like to see voice posting and transcription (maybe via Google Voice?) but It has been worth the premium membership price for me to get organized.

Keep up the great work--
TedtheTeacher

@pdxgrey

Thank you for mentioning the toodledo.com in Episode #159. It is THE todo list manager I have been wanting for the last 10 years. It seems to integrate with all the other applications I regularly use!
