Loosing Memory on a BB 8100 Pearl

by Daviddude - 4/12/09 11:18 AM

Hi people,

I just got a replacement BB 8100 from T-Mobile. I keep loosing memory on this thing...I have seen it go as low as 5. This is a replacement, and when I started using it I did the Switch Device Wizard in the desktop manager to set it up. The only difference between the two is that this one has an icon for Accuweather. I am wondering if this icon is my memory hogger, or if the Switch Device Wizard did something and if I should just backup and then Wipe the device and start fresh.
Any Ideas?
Thanks for your replies.

Memory cleaning?

I am not overly familiar with the 8100 series but do know that the 8130 has a feature called memory cleaning which you can enable on the device to help free up some virtual memory.

Also, if you take a look in the applications, there should be a few tings you can remove which will help you as well. Things such as the Russian character pack, and any sample videos by Blackberry on the unit can be removed without concern as they are rarely (if ever) used, and take up quite a bit of internal memory.

And if you arent alread (and that model supports it) I would suggest a memory card and making sure any multimedia is stored to the card and not internally. Even a few photos or videos on a Pearl can hinder performance and cause memory issues such as an hourglass appearing frequently etc. The 8130 series has only 64mb of internal memory rather than the 96mb the 8330 has, so that could be your issue as well.

Try all of those, and you should have a little better performance.

I am going through it now, I did see the sample video and deleted it. That was 2 MB. I am using a media card and all of my pictures and music is on that.
I did notice in the back up that the list does have a Memory Cleaner and am looking for it now in the applications and icons to try and find it. I had never heard of that before. :)

Tried to find...

I tried to find the memory cleaner but couldn't.
I am not on the Enterprise plan, just regular internet email. Maybe that is it??
I downloaded and installed the S/MIME program thinking maybe that would do it, but no such luck.

Any ideas?

Try this

It should be under options-> security options ->memory cleaning

This is the location of it on the 8130 (CDMA version) of the same device, so it should be similar.

If you do find it keep in mind the every time the unit is turned off, you will need to re-enable this feature. I'd recommend doing it every week or so to clean house.

Goodluck!

No luck

I downloaded and installed the S/MIME software and there is no option for memory cleaner. I checked the BB help and all it said is to check documentation that came with PGP or S/MIME software.
There was no documentation that came with the software.
Thanks for your help though, I do appreciate it.
