Greetings,
I noticed something strange this morning and I'm not sure how to proceed. If I right click my Firefox icon on my desktop, under the Security Tab, I see the usual three "Users" I see everywhere on my system (System / Administrator / and Me) but here I also see two additional users - one is identified as "Account Unknown" followed by a long string of numbers - it has what looks like a small red question mark on its icon - the only permission it has is "Special Permissions". The other is identified as "INTERACTIVE", and has both "Read and Execute" and "Read" permissions.
My problem is that I have tried to understand this Permissions thing for a long time, and I still just don't get it. When I attempt to edit these "Users" in the Firefox Properties, the warning message makes it sound like if I deny these two those permissions, then NO user will be able to use Firefox!
I'd like to fix this without messing something else up royally in the process. Anyone have better insight into this than I? How should I proceed?
Thanks in advance.
john
I read your post twice and can't find an issue to fix.
Maybe you were asking for the one paragraph explainer on permissions, accounts and more. Sorry but it's something that I've spent a decade going over and over and over and over (keep repeating.)
Can you rewrite the question in simpler form? Like this -> Should I change the permissions of a shortcut on my desktop?
To that I'll write "No."
Bob
for your response - I'm sorry I was confusing - perhaps I included too much verbage. I'm not concerned about the Permissions thing - I'll just add it to my growing list of Windows mysteries, and trudge on. My real concern is that the "Unknown Account" in Firefox Properties might have indicated an intruder who had gained control of the browser (I had an instance of such a virus last year!). I'd be more than happy if you could tell me that this was not a legit worry.
Thanks Bob, as always, for you assistance.

Notice what happens when Terminal Services is disabled? It's something of a mystery to some but good to know.
Bob
Bob,
Interesting video - important info. But does Terminal Services have anything to do with my issue? Did you confuse my question with another? Or is my ignorance showing again?
john
Notice what happened to the task manager and account names?
Your plea is all too similar. There is a lot of code out there that fails like this and you get "blank" results or one like yours. Since I am not on your machine and can't know all the services that are required for the account to be known in that display panel here is what I'm writing today.
It's not you. It's also nothing I would fix.
Bob
