Hi all, just looking around for a few laptops. I've narrowed my search down to two, but i can't seem to make a definite decision on either one of them. I will be using this laptop for my grade 12 year and then university. Here are a few points i'm looking at
OS: love the mac osx, but not a deal maker as i can take care of a windows os and keep it running smooth. also, windows 7 is coming out soon (end of the year?) and might want to get a hold of that
Case: portability isn't a huge issue. i know that the gateway is a much bigger system and won't be lugged around often. both systems look amazing. apple with it's aluminum casing and gateway with it's signature style
Speed: specs wise, the gateway has a big advantage to speed with it's 4GB DDR3 ram, but 2DB DDR3 for the macbook isn't bad. i'm wondering, over time, will the 4GB still prove to be better?
Gateway P-7805u FX:
4GB DDR3 RAM
320 HDD 7200rpm
9lbs
17" WXGA @ 1400x900(might get lucky and find a 1900x1400)
2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8400
Nvidia GeForce 9800M GTS
$1149 @ Gateway
Apple Macbook (greater one)
2GB DDR3
250HDD 5400rpm
2mg
13.3" 1280 x 800 ( WXGA )
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M Shared video memory (UMA)
Around $1699 CAD
Please someone, point me in the right direction. and also, to you apple fanboys, i would like a better explanation than "apple is awesome, get it"
Then you see the hardware compares well.
If the OS is not something you need or want, then you have to deal, decide what that is worth to you.
-> But if you want to go with Windows, I say skip Vista and hold out for 7.
