I just read her resume. Anyone who says anything about her looks letting her get jobs should take a look there.

As a WRITER. For a writer, looks have nothing to do with it. Its all skill. People need to grow up, XKCD style

I Posted this elsewhere but needs to be said here too.
I too heard the email Natali read from a "disparaging" Matthew Dattilo in Indiana. (Episode 942 of BOL)
When people judge a book by its cover they don't care what knowledge or insight it may contain, they block it out.
I suspect those same people can't see pass Natali's looks or gender (or whatever they choose to outwardly judge others by) they don't realize in addition to her years of tech & broadcasting experience academically she is pretty close to being Dr. Natali Del Conte.
Sadly those of us who don't fit into the ideal mold of others have to be better then everyone else at what we do; because of people like Matthew who will automatically judge you or make assumptions about you solely based on one's appearance.
Keep doing what you do Natali, in the knowledge that you are good at what you do and many others appreciate you too.
In the words of Friedrich Nietzsche “What doesn't kill us makes us stronger.”
-Schneider
Perhaps you can't judge a book by its cover, but you can certainly get more attention on the bookshelves if you have an attractive cover. Natalie has an attractive cover, and regardless of what's inside the pages, anyone who denies that a good cover sells more books than a bad one probably hasn't spent much time in a bookstore.
Same for magazines.
Same for movie posters.
Same for television personalities.
I like Natalie she is great she is also funny and devilish on the 404 too She is very intelligent woman and that is why she was hired she is the best she is replacement for Molly Wood. That email was very bad and was insulting for every woman meaning only good looking woman get jobs on the TV which is wrong.
Given her education and success in print journalism, no one could credibly claim that Natali doesn't have the goods intellectually to back up her success in tech journalism, but you are either incredibly naive, or outright disingenuous, if you're taking the position that her physical appearance has not lent a hand in her video podcasting and CBS television successes.
One only needs to flip the dial across the television news and talk channels, or the most popular video podcasts to see that "ugly" women don't get much onscreen time, it's the attractive ones that the cameras are pointing at. There's no doubt that if Natali were 50 pounds heavier. had a smaller bust, and a horrid skin disease that she would never have been offered the Textra or Loaded video podcast gigs, which lead to the CBS Morning Show spots. Sadly, this applies much more to female than male onscreen personalities, but it's reality, and you can't deny it or pretend that it doesn't exist.
Textra clearly played up the "eye candy" factor with the frequent low cut dresses and constant hairdo changes, and Natali was a party to that, despite her claims in interview past that she wasn't comfortable with it. She could always have just said "no" to some of those outfits. It's amusing to note that the current Wikipedia article for Natali, which I had to refer to to recall the name of Textra, refers to that show as SEXtra (and no, I am not the one to deface it that way).
Who are the other extremely popular female video tech podcast hosts? Cali Lewis , Amber Mac, Justine Ezarik, Veronica Belmont, Morgan Webb, Sarah Lane, Kiki Sanford, and of course Molly Wood. None of them could be called anything but attractive; do you really think that's a coincidence? They all have the talent and knowledge, but they wouldn't be where they are (in visually oriented media) if they weren't attractive. Do you really think that's not the case?
Natali has every right to take insult at those who say she's only where she's at because of her cup size, but please, be honest and acknowledge that that is a factor that helped get her where she is. To deny that is being dishonest to yourself.
It's not sexism, it's visual-appeal-ism. When you can name a half dozen female mega-stars in the video podcasting world that aren't pleasing to look at, and have multi-year successes with their own shows, come back and prove me wrong, until then, at least acknowledge that physical appearance is a factor in Natali's current chosen industry (video podcasts and network television).
That was the best summation of my thoughts exactly, even though I think of Molly as the coolest girl I've seen(not the hottest).
Just to add to DistortedLoop's comments, here is a site showing the hottest girls as tech hosts. I can't say I've seen too many girls that are hot and are techie.

I also remember Soledad O'brien doing Tech news on a show before it was moved to Cnet. She was/is great but, I'm sure her looks helped get her on camera. Soledad is probably one of extremely few women that had the looks, the personality, and the tech enthusiasm that made it work.
I still don't find Natalie that enthused about tech, but more of a reporter.
I do like Natali, but I think she's still finding her element in a 'talk show' format vs. scripted format (ala Loaded). As she said, "it's a 40 minute show" and it's probably hard to frame every word correctly all the time. Although, I did find it ironic that her plea to keep gender out of it, would never have been said with such emotion by a guy.
I don't think anyone is suggesting that you have to be ugly to be funny or smart; the argument is that in a situation where all other things are equal (i.e., how funny and how smart someone is), that the more attractive person is the one who will get the upper hand.
Even worse, in many industries (such as on-screen television, video podcasting, sales, etc), the more attractive person will be selected for the position even if they are not as well qualified as an ugly person.
Episode 942:
Time: 32:40-32:44
Natali I am not a hater. In fact I like you on BOL and many other things but you do tend to say things without thinking and offend people. Ask the 404 and their "Christian Rock Band" deal. Above is the episode and the moment you talked about and I quote-
"I am not someone who is classicist, I do know what the fly-over states are like and I......"
The email mentioned nothing of fly-over states.
Is nice!

I had no idea Natali was "hot" the only time I've ever seen her was on watchbol.com which is very unflattering due to the dark webcam, and strange angle. I don't listen to tech podcasts because they are stimulating in that way. It is wrong for someone to dislike someone or judge them based on their gender. That just ticks people off. That is the very reason Natali rubs me the wrong way. She consistently "defends" feminism to such an unbalanced extreme it comes across as misandry. This type of political view has been long approved of in print and tv media, but it is not welcome in the niche tech podcast demographic. Every time there is a story about men vs women Natali gets all defensive as if she is being personally attacked. It's as though she is holding onto the long disproved feminist stance that men and women are exactly the same in every aspect except reproductive systems, and to say otherwise is oppressive or discriminatory toward women. Men and women are drastically different. Their brains function differently. Their hormonal systems are drastically different. Even from the womb the "testosterone bath" separates masculinity from femininity. This doesn't mean one is better than the other, just different! These are wonderful and beautiful facts of life. We should accept people for who they are, however Natali seems to have a consistently displayed dislike of maleness she has even quoted feminists on the show, and has with the reading of the recent letter turned the show into some kind of platform to defend feminism.
It is a tech show!! Leave your politics out of it! It may be widely accepted on the coasts, but the "fly-over" states do not like it. My criticism of Natali has nothing to do with her looks, or credentials. She is too political and it ruins the fun tech banter when she brings those views into stories that are apolitical. When a political view does come up she squelches any opposing views as inferior and ignorant. This ticks people off Natali! Podcasting is not a one way medium where you can say whatever you want and your audience has no recourse. I only ask that Natali be more open minded to opposing political views and generally keep the politics out of it.
Why the hate?
Politics are always spoken about by everyone on the show. Why single out Natali?
I do feel sorry for Natali because she's let everyone know that the comments get to her. It probably means they'll do it all the more.
The way I see it is that your typical tech guy likes order; constants and absolutes. I see it in my job all the time, even with members of my team which I try to disparage as much as possible!
Average Joe Techdude fears change and doesn't deal with it well. That's what I think it boils down to.
<natali-love>Natali: you do a great job. You know your stuff, you're quirky, you've now developed a skill to segway between any 2 topics no matter how obscure & you've got great tech taste.
Ignore the haters. You're great the way you are. </natali-love>
Other hosts share political views on tech related issues. That's what the podcast is supposed to be about, technology. When the other hosts inadvertently share personal political views like during the election it is very light-hearted and satirical.
I don't really recognize pretty much any of what you're saying as accurate.
Consistently defends feminism? Misandry (tho nice use of the arcane by the (likely) misogynist!)? Gets all defensive as if she is being personally attacked? I just don't even know what show you're listening to! Off all the many criticisms in this and other much more lengthy threads no one else has said that, even those who descended to personal and petty attacks with no apparent boundaries.
And apparently you think all techs believe in the "testosterone bath" effect and that there should be inequal treament for the sexes? 'Cause that's really a more accurate description of the "feminist stance"--that the sexes should have equal treatment under the law, not they are exactly the same--how silly!--that's the kind of hyperbole that makes me suspect you're just enjoying stirring things up.
