Cache Files And How They Can Help You, Even With 2Gb+ RAM

by computer_tech - 3/31/09 11:03 AM

some people like to think so but one thing i think people are forgetting as although it can help computers with less ram true. your HD (Hard Drive) also comes into play here ill give an example i run a virtual windows XP this virtual computer is on a flash drive its read is 23Mb/s write 18Mb/s and its good at random reads so it should in theory be faster then a normal HD, but the flash drive has a little less ability to do so many things well with the added cache of 512Mb out of the 2Gb available to my virtual pc i can increase the speed by giving the flash drive less to do the same can be said for a normal HD the less it has to do the faster it can do it. i used Eboostr for these tests and a speed test showed as such

Direct Access Speed: 23.4235Mb/s
Cache Enabled Speed: 145.3453Mb/s

this is because the RAM is able to read very fast and because i am using a FlashDrive as my OS main HD it does not have to seek to the file allowing the RAM to open it at its full speed, so even tho i have 4GB RAM and a Quad-Core the Cache was still able to make a large difference. now for people who use normal HD's Cache can still help just not quite to such a large scale, things such as game maps load times, browsers and email programs. the first time you open a file you may notice its in fact slower by just a little this is because the file is being moved into the Cache for future reference once its in the Cache it will be able to open faster the next time you try to use it. the bigger the Cache the more files that can be stored but at the same time the larger the Cache the more it has to work with thus depending on what you do could make it faster or slower.

The email harvesting robots should pick up on that in a few minutes.

Are you sure you wanted this?

We get complaints aplenty about this. This forum is trawled for such and you've pretty much given them one to spam for years to come.

Please don't complain as your spam spikes over the next few months.
