I'm having trouble installing .net framework 3.5 SP1 and .net 3.5 Framework Family update (KB951847) x86 on new hard drive, clean install of OS.
Error code 80073715
I had this installed, it worked correctly with no problems that I am aware of, when it was the .net Framework 3.5 RC1 alone without the family part. In fact I was recommending it.
Error code 80073715 produces no "workarounds". A search of M$ and other forums produced no results. The link provided below creates no results. Anyone have a "work around" for this?
Other information I have MSXML 4.0 installer, installed in this PC. OS is Windows Vista Business.
Looks like that installer issue that nagged Windows Vista SP1 to me.

Instead of updating while online, try downloading the full installer files to your desktop, then run them?
Here are those links. Since the error you've given indicates a 32 bit system, I'll give 32 bit links::
Clicking on the link below will immediately open the download dialogue window for NET Framework 3.5 SP1..
http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/0/e/20e90413-712f-438c-988e-fdaa79a8ac3d/dotnetfx35.exe
Download all three files at the bottom of the page and install them in order:
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for Windows Vista x86, and Windows Server 2008 x86

Hope this helps.

Installation failed.
We uninstall ALL versions of NET Framework and reinstall with the full downloadable installers. Your problem appears to the be the result of an incomplete removal of the previous Release Candidate version.. As with most betas and release candidates, they need to be completely removed before installing the final release.. And sometimes that means manual removal.
Hope this helps.

last week. Nothing but personnel files have been moved to it. None of the .net 3.5 have successfully been down loaded so there is nothing to remove. Once it fails, it back it out and deletes the temporary file. Remember this is an update.
My old hard drive the one this new one replaced does have the .net framework 3.5 RC1 installed in it and is working fine. I've been using it for months.
The real concern is it's not being reported through "problem reports and solutions" to M$ so they may not be aware of the problem.
I think I'll just need to wait till they get it resolved.
Taadaa! It has installed. Yesterday, I reported this to Microsoft using a round about way through "Problem Reports and Solutions". I'm not sure if they did anything or not but it has installed successfully. If they did, they did it very quickly. Hope it still works. ![]()
Thanks Grif
I was getting installation errors with .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 and during a number of hours of troubleshooting and reading posts "everywhere" this is what worked for me. To install 3.5 SP1 you need a good install of 1.1 and "2.0" I searched all the install logs(for 3.5 SP1) and my erors were that 2.0a and 3.0a was not installed. This is a common problem I found out. So I uninstalled all previous versions of Framework then ran the Windows Uninstall tool-which cleans registry entries. Next I systematically installed 1.1, rebooted then "2.0" and rebooted and finally 3.5 SP1. Since 3.5 SP1 systematically installs some of the previous packages The key is to have 1.1 and 2.0 installed first-NOT 2.1 prior to trying 3.5 SP1. I myself could not get it to work any other way. My problems started with bad Western Digital drive copy software. I had a Seagate drive fail, like we all have read recently, so I bought a Western Digital drive. The drive is great but after copying an old Maxtor drive It returned messages like "not all files were copied and many of these will be recreated by Windows." Wrong! Seagate has drive problems but their drive "cloning" option in their drive copying program is flawless. Good luck. I fixed "many" problems.
if I need to reinstall the OS.
I did a fresh vista reinstall on My Dell C521 and had issues with net 3.5 SP1 update as well with endless update failure loops to follow.Yeah I spent all day trouble shooting this issue and reading posts and like you "everywhere".Yeah me I just needed to install the regular net 3.5 then the net frame 3.5 SP1 installed as a update.I wish Microsoft would fix this problem.Oh yeah thanks for your post it helped a lot.
