I've slacked long enough in posting to the forums (as I promised several weeks ago)...actually, it took me this long to think of something worthy of posting. But as I mentioned on today's podcast (which will post later this afternoon), I'm really curious about this whole HD Radio thing. I haven't personally had a chance to listen to one yet, but hopefully will in the near future. So here it is:
What do you think about HD Radio and its future? Will it be a big hit in the States (and/or elsewhere)? Do you own HD Radio gadgets? In the car or at home? Is the audio fidelity noticably better than that of broadcast? Comparable to what? MP3 or AAC? What about HD Radio on an MP3 player--would that affect your purchasing decision?
One of my colleagues has started reviewing HD Radio equipment and has thus far failed to be impressed by the audio fidelity of the products/service. If you're interested, you can glean his thoughts from this review: http://reviews.cnet.com/radio-tuners/cambridge-soundworks-radio-820hd/4505-7866_7-32077735.html?tag=prod.txt.2 [skip to the first paragraph of the Conclusion section]
It's nothing but a farce!

I think HD Radio will turn out like satellite radio, there might be some initial interest in it but overall it won’t catch on. There are just too many ways for people to get the music they want to listen to without all the noise that these services require.
I gave up my subscription to XM Radio at the beginning of the year since they got rid of the one station that I listen too. I now use Last.fm, Pandora and Slacker to find new music and buy what I like thru Amazon MP3 or CDs if that band rolls though. I do miss some of the weekly radio shows but I have been finding some suitable substitutes for those in the form of podcasts. Also all of this doesn’t cost me a monthly subscription fee or multiple costly devices that can only be used in one area.
I wouldn’t mind checking out HD Radio to see how the quality of the sound and programming is but I’m pretty darn happy with what I have right now.
