Hi, i need help.
My computer is running windows XP.
I have this error when opening practically every program. If i try to open a .exe "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." pops up. Also, i have tried rightclicking the .exe > General > Unblock except there is no Unblock tab.
Also, whenever i reboot my computer, it says DISK BOOT FAILURE. Then i have to manually shut it down but holding the button or turning off my power supply.
How can i fix these problems?
I would really appreciate it. Thanks a million!
Unfortunately, you haven't told us much about your computer.. Windows XP but which service pack? What brand and model number? How old is the computer? Have you tried scanning the computer with a good antispyware program?
"DISK BOOT FAILURE" isn't a good thing. It usually means the drive is headed south. Since there are other possible reasons for such and error message, have you removed all discs and floppy discs from their various drives?
More importantly, do you have Recovery discs for the computer should you need to use them? If you have backups of all your important files, it might be worth trying system restore although the issues you've mentioned sound a little more serious than SR can repair. (Click on Start-All Programs-Accessories-System Tools-System Restore. When the "Calendar" page comes up, choose a bold date BEFORE your problem occurred, then follow the prompts to restore your computer to an earlier time.)
Hope this helps and let us know more.

My PC is XP Service packs up to date (SP2?)
I was running spysweeper on my home PC this morning and when I returned I discovered the exact same problem. Selecting any icon and all files results in this message...IE, Mozilla, email, word files, security programs etc.
I saw one post that said to restore the system, but I receive the same message when I attempt to select it. HELP Please!
Any hints? My firewall is Comodo and it is a bit chatty. Possibly I clicked a box incorrectly when it popped up? But trying to open Comodo results in the same error message. Add/Delete program - Same error. Accessing Administrative Tools - same error and so on.
To my knowledge this happened when I was running Spy sweeper and CCleaner.
If you can access Safe Mode, great.. try the System Restore option from Safe Mode.. On the other hand, if you're seeing the same ""DISK BOOT FAILURE"" message as the previous user, then the hard drive is the normal culprit and you'll need to start searching for full recovery options with a new hard drive.
Hope this helps.
