wireless stop connecting

by dhruv84 - 3/17/09 2:47 PM

i have windows vista home premium (original). I have acer aspire 4925g
with 802.11a/b/g/draft n-wlan

My wireless seemed to work perfectly till early morning today when it would be able to locate the network but could not connect to it.

i tried all the possible solutions till I narrowed it down to one problem. I checked the windows update history and saw that there was a "failed attempt" to update the Intel wifi 5100 AGN . So i went to the Intel website to update it and couldn't find any recent updates.

the file version i have is 12.2.0.11 and that seems to be the most recent one. I realized that before this failed attempt, I never had any problems with my wifi at all and now I cant connect.

I am able to connect using the lan cable but not through wireless.
I tried to uninstall the wifi drivers but it installs the latest version automatically and same problem continues.

need help with this.

thanks
D

Too much detail missing.

With that new kiddie exploit tools you could be getting SMAC'd off the air. (see SMAC on google.com) I never reveal the names of the softwares that terrorize owners like this.

But you could tell us about your router, it settings and more.

i dont think its SMAC

i have 2 other roommates using the wireless and they don't seem to have any problems. i however came across an interesting post.

it seems intel came out with the update prematurely for the 5100 wifi agn. the file netw5v32.sys seem to gave a lot of people many problems. so they replaced it with the older version netw4v32.sys.

i am not sure if i should try that. i am looking for a particular windows update (KB943899) on my laptop to uninstall it coz that seems to the root of the problem for many people.

as far as router mac address goes, i have manually entered it.

Sorry but I have failed to get the point across. It does not matter that other machines work or not. With SMAC and other tools there is no trouble at all kicking you off the router and hijacking your MAC address.

If you won't take the hint there is little I can offer.

The proper setup is in our Networking Forum if you ever want to try again and have less issues.

PS. Again, MAC filters do not work!
