Running with the LG Dare

by rebel 1206 - 2/12/09 12:45 PM

Does anyone out there exercise or more specifically run with their LG Dare for music and phone purposes? If so, I have a few questions:

1. What type of head phones are good for that?

2. Are there any headphones, either bluetooth or wired that will allow you to listen to the music and answer the phone if someone calls?

3. What is the best way to keep the Dare protected during exercise?

Any helpful hints would be appreciated.

Thanks

You need to get an Apple iPhone!
as an ex-iphone user, I enjoyed doing physical activities with it because of that little white box on it that lets you change music, pause it, answer calls, hang up calls, etc, all while wearing your headphones, I dont think any other headphones do that.
I mean bluetooth stuff does let you accept calls and stuff hands-free, but wont let you listen to music, not very good quality at least.

the iphones battery life DOES suck, but what do you expect with a full touch screen phone with a bunch of fun apps right at your fingertips for free. But I'm sure the dare is no better with battery life. (though I have not read any reveiws or anything...)

but if your looking to do athletics a lot with a phone for music and calls, I suggest an iphone.

Yes, there are both wired and bluetooth headphones...

Hi rebel,

Yes, there are both wired and bluetooth headphones and headsets that will do what you want. A wireless bluetooth stereo headset would be the easiest solution because you won't have to deal with plug adapters (more about that below). But a good stereo headset jack will be more costly and you'll never get as good of sound quality over bluetooth as you could get with a high-quality wired pair of headphones or headset.

I suggest you start with the Verizon Wireless website and see what accessories they recommend for your phone. You might also be able to learn from the experience of others at the cellphoneforums.net website. They may have an LG Dare forum.

But a word of caution: As I understand it, your LG Dare has a non-standard 3.5 mm stereo headset jack. You'll have to get an appropriate adapter for it and the safest place to do this will be from Verizon or LG. It will require an uncommon 4-pole 3.5 mm plug and most people you talk to (even LG Dare owners and Verizon sales staff) will not understand it. Using an improper plug with your phone may short-circuit part of its headset jack and this would NOT be good. You'll need to find someone who understands what your phone needs and the difference between headphones and headsets (they are not the same and they are not compatible).

Best regards, WiredNot

The Dare does have a standard headphone jack, so any headphones with a mini plug will work. If you want to be able to answer calls while listening to music, you will have to go with a bluetooth head set, or a head set made for that, and there are plenty out there both O.E.M. and after market. I saw an arm-band that has a pouch to hold your cellphone or mp3 player on it on E-Bay(I'm sure you can get them just about anywhere cell phone accessories are available). It's made for this type of thing. I'm a machinist and I listen to music all day while I'm at work on my Dare, and I love it. Hope this answers your questions.
