Hey everyone!
I'm trying to figure out the best way to go about storing my concert collection, and I'm looking for some ideas/suggestions from the community. Right now, my collection is stored entirely on DVD. I have about 530 DVDs of shows, and that grows by 5-10 DVDs a week. I'm looking for the best way to store my collection so that it's easily accessible via an external hard drive of some sort. My first thought was to buy a couple of 1TB drives, but that makes me nervous since one crash would take out a massive amount of shows. Even though I have them all backed up to DVD, I'm willing to spend a little more money for something a little more secure. So my friend and I have discussed arrays, but my understanding of arrays is pretty minimal. I like the idea of storing the shows across more drives (even if it costs more), so that if one goes down, it's not a major inconvenience to replace it and transfer the shows to the new drive. But my computer is a notebook (HP Pavillion dv9000), so I'm not sure how that limits my options for an array. Also, I'm wondering what my options for sharing from the external drive(s) would be, besides USB (all of my up/downloading is through (legal) bittorrent and direct connect). I'll also be doing some up/downloading via FTP, so I'm not sure how that might factor in to everything.
So what's the best way to go about storing my collection while making them as conveniently accessible as possible via torrents, direct connect, and FTP? If you have any suggestions or comments, or if I'm leaving any info out, please let me know.
Thanks in advance!
-Brian
