I got a new LN40A650 not too long ago and I love it but I have noticed alot of blu-ray movies I have rented are 1080p like all blu-ray movies but they are NOT really 1080p =) the resolution is not really 1920*1080 they just throw some black bars in there and alot of movies are just upconverted and don't really look as good as alot of other hi-def movies so my question is can someone give me a list of good movies that are true natively recorded in HD or at least look AMAZING. I have heard Mission Impossible is the best I don't know. On another note I am in a fairly small room but I wish to have some high quality surround sound any specific reccomendations? My budget can varry greatly but since I have a small room I figure it does not have to be 600$ =) I do want that surround all over experience thow so maybe some 7.1 overkill wouldn't be so bad.
Grr I am sick of my topic quickly swooping to page 2!
budget if possible. Many have posted with that sort of budget. Frankly, fine sound is doable but requires a bit more investment. If you must do an HTIB for your budget check out Onkyo HTIBs at sites like jr.com

No one list can be perfect, but this is as good as I've seen.
As to movie quality in BluRay, perhaps jostenmeat can chime in because he views only 1080P with front projection onto 100+" screen.
is probably because the amount of information one had to teach you could seem overwhelming.
HD movies are NOT upconverted. Some films just enjoy masters that are in better condition, or better film, and then some of these enjoyed transfers that were more pain staking and time consuming than others. Why do you think LOTR takes so long to come out on bluray? Finding Nemo?
Then consider that most people don't know what good video quality is to begin with. They think that the grain inherent to film means bad quality, and are too used to "video". Or perhaps too used to frame interpolation that runs rampant with LCD displays.
Also, black bars movies ARE recorded in 1080. Movies are naturally filmed in a whole variety of different aspect ratios including 1.77:1, 1.85, 2.00, 2.35 2.35 2.37 2.38 2.39 2.350 etc blah blah
