i've noticed that if i leave my laptop alone for a while,it will show a blue screen of some sort saying that windows needs to shut down, dumps the memory into the hard drive, and restarts after about 15 seconds.then in boot,it says that windows shut down improperly and asks how i want to start-safe mode, normal, etc.
not as big a deal but rather annoying,my icons will not stay where i put them on my desktop.i like to keep game icons on the right side,internet/connectivity up top,and office along the left.it works for me.but this will bring them all back to one side after every restart, including coming out of sleep mode.what the flip, kip.
one last problem, windows 7 has a problem connecting to the internet via my sprint mobile broadband connection, however the program and connection itself works just fine.any ideas/suggestions would be super.thanks!

In your case, be sure to write down the STOP code that appears on that blue screen, as well as the filename if one is given. That is required to determine what is causing the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) issue.
The icon issue will likely be resolved once the BSOD issue is resolved.
Finally, note that you may need to download drivers for your networking card/adapter in order to use it to connect to the internet.

BSODs as i've traditionally seen them talk of some kind of fatal error.this blue screen says that Windows has detected a problem and needs to restart, then it goes on to tell me run some diagnostics, but i cant read fast enough to find out what these tests are before the message goes away and my system restarts.

It is indeed a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death). Usually they include a STOP code and frequently a filename, but there are also 'generic' BSODs that report a 'problem' and shutting down your computer 'to protect your computer' with no additional details while performing a basic kernel memory dump and then rebooting.
Such issues are frequently identifiable by reading through the logs in Event Viewer and seeing what occurred immediately before the crash/reboot. Also, try booting into Safe Mode with Networking and letting it run for a while to determine if a startup application/service is to blame.

there apparently is corruption in the os itself.only problem is i dont have a copy of vista to go back to.advice?
Windows XP and Windows Vista are available for purchase if the beta release of Windows 7 is not functional on your system. Otherwise, there are always Linux distros if you are not committed to Windows applications.

Windows 7 is a BETA. Not ready for everyone so if you need your machine to work proper, install the original supplied OS and the usual firewall and antivirus.

Its not suprising that some people are having problems with windows 7, considering its still in the testing stage, and there are many problems to fix on such a project like that. There are probably tons of pages of coding to go through to find a problem if there is one.
My computers are boring. No BSODs, boots or such. But then again they are never running any torrent, odd software, rarely see Internet Explorer run and with the help of Grif, Marianne and others I take advantage of their findings to keep the machines free of the nasties.
I also don't run Driver Detective, Registry Cleaners or defrag on the hour.
Is there a theme here?
Bob
Windows 7 installs for me, but if I have more than 1 drive set up that's sata/sata2, it resets itself. It also advises that it can't find the driver for the drive, although it can read/write to the drive without issues. This is on an older Abit motherboard (IC7G), but the system can run Vista w/o issues.
