my experience says: do avoid broadwayphoto like the plague

by emotion_pictures - 12/1/08 9:07 AM In reply to: BroadwayPhoto.com by orangehead911

I ordered a canon 5D mark II from them saturday ONLY because they
insisted they had them in stock. But when I asked for it fed-x, they
said they didn't have it THAT in stock.

hit one.

hit two was after he placed the order for the camera, the smarmy salesman immediately launched into this spiel that the battery that comes with this $2,700 body "won't last more than 20 minutes" and insisted that I consider one of their "six-hour batteries" for $369. I've had a year's wait to research the hell out of this camera and, though it does incorporate video, I've never seen a six-hour battery for this or any other DSLR camera and certainly not one that costs $369. Their cheapest battery for this camera in fact was nearly $200 when the solid canon battery goes for $99 pretty much everywhere.

Moving on from $369 batteries, he then told me that standard pro CF cards are no good for this camera and that I needed one of their SPECIAL cf cards.

That's about when I hung up the phone. I then raced to my bank and cancelled the credit card before they could charge me and make me fight for a refund.

my re-learned lesson: bh. calumet. samy's. or else.

Ditto on Braodwat Photo -- CROOKS! Beware.

Okay, I'm basically just rehashing everything everyone here has already said...but I had to vent.

These guys are crroks. Plain and simple. Oldest gamke in the world: bair and switch. You order online, get an e-mail telling you to call, and then they strongarm you trying to get you to buy all kinds of stuff you don't need at ridiculous prices. Customer service in nonresponsive by e-mail, and you're kept on hold when you call.

For those (like me) who are angry about this, in addition to filing a complaint with the FCC, the FTC and The NYC BBB, also consider filing a complaint with the NY State Attorney General's office at http://www.oag.state.ny.us/resource_center/complaints/complaints.html

Oh yeah, and DON'T ORDER FROM THESE CRIMINALS.

Broadway photo scam

by dosimeon - 12/30/08 4:14 PM In reply to: BroadwayPhoto.com by orangehead911

I ordered a Powershot camera last Sunday before reading this thread, for 6% less than the Amazon/J&R price. I did read it before picking up the phone this morning, supposedly to confirm the shipment details. I cancelled my order when the salesperson said the camera, listed as in stock would ship in 6 or 8 weeks. The salesperson acknowledged my request and I received the cancellation email less than an hour after cancelling over the phone. I wil keep an eye on my credit card over thenext couple of days to make sure to is not charged. The salesperson did try to sell me a spare battery because the one that comes with the camera lasts only 15 minutes. Is it Broadway's business model to encourage cancellation (by quoting unacceptable shipement terms) when the customer refuses to buy spare batteries?

.....pretty much

by ackmondual - 12/31/08 9:52 AM In reply to: Broadway photo scam by dosimeon

They remind me of how tech support was at places like the large corporations such as Dell. It seems like they have a decision tree which they follow....

get customer to buy extra accessories and junk at 4 to 10x the retail price

if they refuse, push the issue further

If still no go, get them to cancel order the order.

I can't share the same experience

by albertorizo - 3/2/09 1:50 PM In reply to: BroadwayPhoto.com by orangehead911

Yes, they offer you all kind of crap, accessories and unnecessary guarantees but you can ALWAYS say NO.
I have bought about 6 or 7 cameras all with them, either for me or for presents, not a single issue.
Not that I work for them, but the high capacity battery they sell, it was at the same price on e-bay and cheaper than in other websites.
If you compare against generic brands, or Chinese batteries OF COURSE you'll find them... but at the end you'll see yourself buying an original which is the one they sell (at least in my case) cause the cheap generic ones only last couple of months specially if you are a hardcore photographer.
2 lessons:
-Learn to say no
-Buy original (or compare apples with apples)

It seems the problem with saying "no" is.....

by ackmondual - 3/2/09 9:24 PM In reply to: I can't share the same experience by albertorizo

..... they woN'T take NO for an answer. That would be a stalemate that takes resolve to settle.

Post 23 of 60

did they twist your arm?

by albertorizo - 3/3/09 7:00 AM In reply to: It seems the problem with saying "no" is..... by ackmondual

I think is simple, they can't sell you something you don't want to buy.
Yes I have to agree, they harass you in that one telephone call "to confirm" the order, every single purchase I've made they keep doing it.. guess what I said NO.
The third camera I bought, an optio A30 I had batteries I bought from E-bay for 6 or 7 dollars, they lasted a few months, when I bought that camera I wanted to be on my vacation in Europe not thinking about re-charging batteries, I bought the extended long life battery "Original from pentax" and really lasted longer, so I have to disagree somewhat... they definitively exaggerated saying the battery that comes up last only 20 min that's not true, I paid $40 for the extended long life bat. which is the same price as other retailers, note 'original' which made a difference from my own experience...
They offered me memory cards which I just got one 32 GB SDHC for $66 on e-bay for my new Optio W60 that I got for $224, about $60 cheaper than on pentax website...
Again, their sales model is very aggressive and harass but they can't sell you something you are not prepared to buy...

I know more of the same type of store

by comdicap - 4/22/05 3:12 PM In reply to: Suppliers to avoid like the plague? by a4phantom

www.amphotoworld.com
www.infinityphoto.com

interesting thing is that they are all operating in NY area. They bait you with cheap price and make you call to confirm and they will tell you "Do you want batteries with that?" What kind of question is that? I asked them and they both said, that it doesn't come with battery nor charger and they are $350 or more. I wonder anybody who bought from them at their advertised price without getting ripped off. Also, their customer service really suck. When I called to confirm, they were in a hurry and when I told them my order number. Then they told me within a second that they don't have it and hang up. What a service! I was thinking about reporting their bad business pratice, but couldn't find where to report. But this is perfect place let everyone know who they really are!

i just saw this message, but too late. I ordered a computer from their site. Did you receive your order? I'm concerned that this may be a fraud now, so wanted to check what happened with your transaction.
Thanks!

Infiniti Photo

by snapshot2 Moderator - 5/1/05 7:09 PM In reply to: infinityphoto.com by fredazer

I think you mean Infiniti Photo (note the spelling).

A Google search turns up lots of negative comments.
It appears this company did go by the name of Infiniti Cameras in the past.

http://www.resellerratings.com/seller9662.html

..........

If they email or call you and want to discuss your order, they will try to sell you more items.

If you do not order the other items, you will not get the item you ordered. It will suddenly be out of stock.

Tell them to cancel the order and notify your credit card company to reject any charges from Infiniti Photo.

I agree 1000% that Broadway Photo has been the worst buying

by leflane4pasnonly - 1/29/08 3:30 PM In reply to: Note by Stan Chambers

I agree 1000% that Broadway Photo has been the worst buying experience ever!!! I called to confirm while sitting in traffic, thought it would be a great thing to do instead of wasting time, and was unexpectedly hit with rude, confusing sales pitches. Next thing I know, I'm laying in a tub of ice water all stiched up, my wallet missing, and no clue what happened. Honestly, the worst part of this whole ordeal was feeling violated and trying to resolve the issue to a non-existant customer service phone line. Best thing I did was reassure myself with the credit-card company and have a beer(s). Never again will I buy without doing a back ground check for this crap before buying the lowest amount!!! DON'T BUY FROM BROADWAY PHOTO!!! New Yorkers are a different bread of people, no empathy, just material.

don't be ignorant

You can't blame all New Yorkers for a few scam artists that take advantage of people who are trying to cut corners. New Yorkers are definitely a different breed of people though. Very tough and serious about therir business. Don't be ignorant and think that all New Yorkers are of the same merit as the people of broadway photo. Here is a tip, if something seems too good to be true then it probably is. why would they sell you a product at such a low cost if the rest of the world is selling it for apx. the same regular price. You should know that one of the most respected places to purchase camera equipment is in New York. B and H photo is famous nationwide for quality customer service and great prices. you could also try Adorama, also in New York. I am in New York and I have to tell you I DO feel sorry for you, but you can be scammed in any city don't make that mistake again thinking that there is a better breed of people in another city.
