Roboform - http://www.roboform.com - Works with Firefox,IE 7 and Vista

It doesn't get much better than this. You can:
Manage your passwords and logins automatically.
Generate random passwords.
Encrypt passwords.
Copy your passwords between computers.
Complete long registration/checkout forms with one click.
Sync your passwords to Windows Mobile and Palm.

'Anypass' is free

by Betsy402 - 3/1/09 8:51 AM In reply to: Help! I'm at my wits end trying to manage my passwords by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

A solution I use is Any Password free utility. You can set it up with folders, etc for work vs. personal. One password gets you into the software to access your OTHER passswords. Available through: www.anypassword.com.

Password Management

by Finetexan - 3/1/09 9:07 AM In reply to: Help! I'm at my wits end trying to manage my passwords by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Don't rely on your memory! Take a practical approach. When possible use the same username and password for as many sites as possible. Of course you would not do this for critical ones such as bank info or any that are secure sites.
I am a contract worker for many agencies and I also am a member of 20+ Survey sites and such which require passwords. I pay my bills online and have fun and informational sites I visit frequently. I have to access websites to view payroll information, take tests etc...I have also found that some survey sites do not contact you when you have points or monetary credits and they just sit there unused. I found $52 in one account recently which if I had not accessed it would not have been found. So having your passwords available can be important!
What I have done is simple...Get a Garden Variety address book just for your passwords, login information such as User Names, Security Questions, Passwords and any other pertinent info such as the date you joined. As you join or access the sites for the first time enter them into the book immediately. Keep it near your computer. You may want to enter email addresses and passwords in your regular address book which you could keep in a secure place (Gotta find one if you have nosy housemates!!!) How about your locked glovebox or a locked toolbox?
Also in AOL you can save mail in folders you create. You can have one called "Surveys", Bills, Shopping, and so forth. As you receive the confirmation emails Save them to the folder. Nothing complicated because the purpose is defeated if it is too time consuming and commplex to use. Also I was going to make a Password List for my surveys in Word but it TOOK TOO LONG! I do a Highlight>Print of the home page of the info you want to save, print it out and write your User Name and Password at the top. I check them about once a month to see my cash/point balance if I have not heard from them recently.
If you have problems with the people you live with...that sounds like a personal problem to me. Find a way to disquise your book and print outs and stash them somewhere convenient for you. Ease of use and simplicity is the key to my system or "What's the point?".
By the way I am 64 and it is very good training for your memory to remember your passwords!! But back it up with something written.

Managing Passwords

by dbillet - 3/1/09 9:31 AM In reply to: Help! I'm at my wits end trying to manage my passwords by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I have used ROBOFORMS by Siber Systems for years.

It will generate passwords that fit a specified level of safety.
There is a free version that holds 50 passwords. I use the professional version which hold unlimited passwords and allow you to customize what fields to recognize in pages with input fields.
It is maintained with or without a master password and with or without individual site passwords (useful on a computer that has multiple users).
YOu can ask it to automatically autofill or signin to recognized accounts or not.
Has integrated pop-up blocker.
Works with Firefox

All this is customizable or of course you can take defaults.
I have never been notified of any security breaches or emergency fixes.
It autoomatically checks for updates if you want.

PASSWORD MANAGE

by przone33 - 3/1/09 10:38 AM In reply to: Help! I'm at my wits end trying to manage my passwords by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Hi!
William,
Since you have so many passwords to remember, choose
a easy one that's good for you. Examples.....wil213B,w1182g,etc...
The best thing that would be good to do, is make up to password tat
you can remember...One with a Capital in the middle such as....723Will or G4500wl. Use something easy but with a mixture of number and letters
When I was in college, one thing my instructor said was make one password easy for you to remember but hard for a hacker or who ever to decrypt the password. I have use this for years and never been hack yet.

Hope this been a help for you
Phil..

Password storage

by rikamae - 3/1/09 10:48 AM In reply to: Help! I'm at my wits end trying to manage my passwords by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

A friend of mine uses a jump drive that he has attached to his keyring. He has one password protected file on the jump drive, so he only has to remember one password. By accessing the password protected file on his jump drive, he has access to any other password he might need. He always has his keys with him, and he figures it is unlikely he'll lose them. I don't know if he has taken other steps in his file to try to mask the information just in case he were to lose it, but I know this has worked very well for him. I haven't gone quite so far - mine are still written down and stored in my purse. I think his idea is much more practical.

How I Manage Passwords

by yankeeskid77 - 3/1/09 11:31 AM In reply to: Help! I'm at my wits end trying to manage my passwords by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I've tried several software programs, but what I've finally settled on is this: I created a worksheet table on Microsoft Excel listing all my online accounts with each appropriate password. I also list any special notes for each online account such as user name, verifying icons and pertinent account questions. This particular file is obviously password protected with a password that is changed often and copied on a single flash drive. Only one password to remember.

Use a secure password storage program

by essjae - 3/1/09 12:37 PM In reply to: Help! I'm at my wits end trying to manage my passwords by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I had this problem, being in IT also, I found a simple and free program, password corral, that securely stores all your passwords.
Just enter your username, password, URL, etc for each of your accounts in here and you're set.

Roboform is the best

by leefaroe - 3/1/09 12:42 PM In reply to: Help! I'm at my wits end trying to manage my passwords by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I have been using roboform for years, there is a free trial too. It remembers the password for each site automatically, and pops up when you go there - awesome. you only have to remember one password.

Managing passwords

by dnwelch - 3/1/09 1:19 PM In reply to: Help! I'm at my wits end trying to manage my passwords by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I use RoboForm to manage passwords and couldn't be more pleased with the program. It can be password protected itself, and it manages all the passwords to the sites where I log in. It's easy to edit or to delete passwords no longer needed. It also comes in RoboForm To Go (saved on a flash drive) and RoboForm for hand-held devices. I would not hesitate to recommend this program to anyone who needs password storage and security.

How I do it..

by rchaisse - 3/1/09 1:59 PM In reply to: Help! I'm at my wits end trying to manage my passwords by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

First of all, let me say that my method is in no way secure. But it's really convenient.
Go into your C-drive and create a folder. ( I named mine 'Special' )
While holding down the Ctrl-Shft keys, click & drag it to your Quick-Launch toolbar. ( this will create a shortcut there ) Now, click on Start / All Programs / Accessories. While holding down the Ctrl-Shft keys, click & drag Notepad to your Quick-Launch toolbar, also. ( this will also create a shortcut there )
Now here's how you use this.
Whenever you need to remember an account number, or password or web-site info, open Notepad from your quick-launch task-bar. ( you can also open the 'Special Folder, Right-click and select New / Notepad )
Type in, or copy & Paste in the information you want to save. Save the document in the Special folder with the name of the Product or web site..
Next time you visit the web site and you need the information, simply click on the Special Folder in Quick-Launch. (The Notepad documents you have in there can be sorted by name to find them easily) Click on the name and now you can read and type in the info to the web site, or you can copy and paste the info.

I have close to 250 entries and I love it.

Password managers - which OS?

by marikavs - 3/1/09 2:33 PM In reply to: Help! I'm at my wits end trying to manage my passwords by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

For Windows I have found Roboform (http://www.roboform.com/) to be the best and easiest to use. It is ~$30 and has a free trial. It is, however, not available for any OS on the Mac, where 1Password comes to mind. (http://agilewebsolutions.com/products/1Password)
It's not as easy to use as Roboform, and is ~$10 more. It too has a free trial. But in my experience, the built-in Keychain Access on the Mac works quite well (and safely.)
[Oops, I finally took the time to go find the other answers to this question and realized it was in PC Utilities. These days PC=Windows. Sorry.]

PassWord - Subcrip - Website Memeberships - WhataDrag!

by TomasAloisio - 3/1/09 2:43 PM In reply to: Help! I'm at my wits end trying to manage my passwords by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I have note books.
I have special subcription email alias
I have excel sheets
I have Special Folders with Rules
I have moved into USB chil U3 services / auto fillers
I like most are fees bummer.
I have started research on Pageone, so far so good, the blackberry icon 10 bucks not there yet.
I have been frustrated also.
I believe management is best, specific email for subscrips and username and password universals.
Use higher level encryp Capitals, Numbers Lower case if you can.

You could try storing them in the notes section of your Cell/Phone.
