Hi, this does not seem to be working for me. Here is what I tried:
1. Renamed sp32478.exe to sp32478.rar
2. Used WinRAR to extract out F6flpy32.exe
3. Renamed F6flpy32.exe to F6flpy32.rar
4. Used WinRAR to extract out temp.IMA
5. Renamed temp.IMA to temp.rar
6. TRIED to extract files from temp.RAR but I get a message from WinRAR saying it is invalid.
I am doing this on my new HP dv6000 running Windows Vista. I am also using WinRAR 3.71 which I just downloaded. Universal Extractor isn't working either.
Does anyone have the files to just give me maybe?
An IMA file is a compressed archive in its own right, so try extracting the contents directly without renaming. If WinRAR rejects the file format ExtractNow is a free option to extract it in a jiff.
Hope this helps,
John
Maybe this is because I am running it on Vista, but ExtractNow did not work. It just crashed with the Vista message "Extract Now has stopped working." Thanks for your point that IMA is an actual compressed archive. I searched for an extracting program for IMA files and found one that did the job at www.MagicISO.com. It reads all types of disk image files and I was finally able to extract all of the files! This should really be compiled into one long living breathing document. If any of the experts want to start one, I would be happy to contribute what I have learned from my experience.
Thanks to Marlon C DaCosta for the detailed post and to skbergam for the MagicISO tip.
I'm not sure how to go about disabling the native sata support. I have a hp pavillion dv6568se and when I hit f10 and go into the options... i don't see anything about native sata support or anything about sata whatsoever. Any ideas on how I might disable it? I've backed everything up and I'm ready to go, it just won't detect my hard drive when I try to install XP. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks alot.
I just get the SATA drivers on floppy and if the new machine doesn't have a drive I use my USB floppy drive for laptops and for desktops we install a floppy drive.

Not all models will recognize or are set to recognize USB devices upon booting. So the USB Floppy method does not always work for everyone.
Disabling Native SATA support is a better more reliable method.

And as to my solution, it's working for me so when it stops I'll use something else. Ok?
Bob
Please review previous posts. I am sure this was covered.
Enter the Bios by pressing the F10 or F12 or Delete key during initial boot.
I am not familiar with your exact model but the proceedure is very similar on all models.
Native SATA Support is probally a hidden submenu under your drive options in the BIOS. You need to hunt for it.
CAUTION: Write down any current settings with time & Date so you can undo any potential mistakes. IF your are not sure what you are doing then get help from a Professional.

Grif, I am stuck,
I own a HP Laptop DV1000 series (DV1622nr). I upgraded the memory. I am very experienced and have done laptop memory upgrades before without any problems.
It came with 2 x 256MB, DDR333, PC2700, Sodimms (Part number 367773-001)
the laptop worked fine before the memory upgrade.
I installed the new memory, EXTREMELY carefully, with the power disconnected.
I installed a 1 GB Samsung Type: PC3200 (DDR400) Part #: K4H1G0838A-TCCC.
Immediately upon reboot laptop began to beep four short beeps and will not display video. So I reinstalled the original memory exactly as it originally was. I rebooted again and the laptop began to beep again, four short beeps and will not display video.
Question is: What did I do wrong?
What do the beeps indicate ?
How do I repair it ?
Please reply To:

...or did you upgrade it to Vista?
Either way, the memory module you installed appears to be the correct type and since Crucial.com indicates the machine takes a max memory of 2GB, it shouldn't be an issue.. Crucial also suggest using the "PC3200 (DDR400" size for the 1 GB sticks.
The four beeps diagnosis depends on your exact motherboard and whether they're long or short beeps...but usually it's referring to a memory issue or a graphics issue on the motherboard.. Both apply here.. For specific "beeps" diagnosis, see the link below:
http://www.pchell.com/hardware/beepcodes.shtml
My guess is the memory sticks still aren't seated correctly.. Try again.. It's easy to incorrectly seat them slightly and in such cases, I continue to retry till they slip firmly into place..
Unfortunately, it's not clear which motherboard is installed on that machine so I can't proceed much further.. If you're sure the memory is installed right, then the next step is a motherboard related issue such as a graphics unit that has headed south.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
Firstly if there is anybody on this list in johannesburg South Africa PLEASE let me know, i am willing to pay to have this downgrade done.
In the meantime here's my question to the forum.
Laptop Model Hp Pavilion DV6521ea
I am failing dismally here...
Tried Dban and it fails right in the baginning saying non-fatal error, and thats where that ends.
I have tried to integrate the SATA files with n-lite and that also fails in the XP installation.
I cant seem to get the right drivers and when I do I cannot seem to get them onto a USB drive. Is there anywhere on the net where I can find the files in their ready-to-use state and not have to run the exe file ?
Any help in this beginning step would greatly be appreciated !
Also are there any alternatives to dban ?
If someone could give me indepth instructions on where to find the right SATA drivers and how to incorporate them with nlite then perform the XP installation I would be a happy man
I checked, but HP doesn't offer the drivers and don't give the motherboard's model number so you can get it from the manufacturer, so I can't help there. The only thing I can offer is Killdisk as a nice alternative to DBAN. Sorry. ![]()
Best of luck.
John
