Installing XP on a System with Vista

by xtrem15t - 2/22/09 4:03 AM

I have a Sony Vaio VGN NR160 E which came with Vista Home Premium.
Actually it's crashing repeatedly because of an outdate touch pad driver "apfiltr.sys". But I have not been able to find a newer updated version for the same! So I am thinking of reverting back to Win XP.

I have partitioned the drives , but I get the message "No Hard Disks found" when I run the setup of XP Pro!

Please Help!

Pradeep

I would take the touchpad problem up with them.

Thanks for your reply, but my lappy is more than a year old now. It was bought in Nov/Dec 2007. [:)]

Frankly I don't use that pad. I turned it off and use a rather nice Logitech V450 Nano mouse.

This week a blue tooth version is supposed to show up.

"it's crashing repeatedly because of an outdate touch pad driver"

I supplied how I dealt with the issue. Now it appears the machine has more issues than what you reported.

-> You can do without that driver. AND many crashes are still turning out to be the usuals.

1. The owner does not clean the vents, heatsinks yearly.
2. The malware I find is on better than 9 out of 10 machines. A common statement "Why should I suspect that? I have Norton."

Tell more about how you do your yearly clean and scan like Grif notes at http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6122_102-0.html?forumID=44&threadID=328220&messageID=2968150&tag=forums06;posts#2968150

Sorry but your first post may have not told all.

Using a copy of XP from a Compaq machine may be a great source of fun and trouble. Any chance of using the real thing?

No doubt it's real.

And so are the limitations of an OEM license. I think it's a great idea for you to try this and LEARN FIRST HAND about XP activation and more.

Anti virus

You may be right, so how do i make myself fully sure that there is no virus or spyware or adware? The most that i can do is install an antivirus/spyware software,, and that's what i have! :)

Some questions what you have done.

by gargoyle_xlvii - 2/23/09 5:29 AM In reply to: Installing XP on a System with Vista by xtrem15t

How were you able to partition the drive?
How did you format the drive and it partitions?

Does the drive show up in your bios? If so is it reported correctly?
Are the hard drives ide or sata?

Is you WinXp an OEM version or purchased copy?

I used a partitioning software to partition the drives and format it.

I have a very different version of a BIOS, I don't know how to check up on the drives in the BIOS.

XP is what came with my older Compaq desktop..
