Ok so I have searched google and seen similar problems but haven't been able to find one quite the same as what I am experiencing
My LAN connections says I am connected at 100MBS but when I attempt to access any sites on Mozilla, or even connect to AIM, I am unable to. It is a wired connection that goes directly into the wall. It had been saying I had limited or no connectivity but now it tells me its connected but clearly isn't. I attempted to renew the ip adress using the command propmt and can successfully do so but continue to have this problem. I replaced my ethernet cable thinking it may be bad but that doesn't seem to help either. I am at college so I am connected in the dorm room, I contacted the help desk to see if they could assist me but they too ran out of solutions. They suggested it may be 1) configured wrong, 2) bad ethernet cable, 3) bad ethernet card. I don't think its the ethernet card and I checked the cable. If anyone has any suggestions on how I can fix this please let me know. Otherwise I may have to resort to reinstalling windows, then hopefully that will work.
I am using Windows XP Home Edition.
alsoooo forgot to mention, it was working on tuesday, stopped working on wednesday and havent had it working since, tried to use a restore point but they are all missing, only ones i have are from Wednesday on, and one of the last things I did tuesday before shutting my comp down was to install a windows update and run disk defrag on my system. I have also run AVG to check for a virus but havent come back with anything yett
Open a command prompt and type in:
ipconfig
See if you have an IP address. If it returns all zeros, like 0.0.0.0 the problem is on their end. You might try:
ipconfig /renew
This may force their router to reassign an IP address. If all else fails, have a friend connect their PC and see if it will work. If it does, try running the Network Setup Wizard.
thanks for ur help, i think i had a virus that was royally screwing with my comp, so i ended up doing a complete reinstall and wiped everything and now it all works fineeee! didn't lose anything important and its running much better then before so i guess it was worth it, thanks again for the help
