scratches rarely damage cds to the point of being useless
all of the above (except for hardware failure) is missing. I have seen then all. It really depends on how they are treated and stored. for my 11 year old it is mis handling. I have mis recorded several, but I catch those when I verify the disk. Others have degraded mysteriously. Either media or environment. Who knows on that one?
But mainly, you need all of the above choices on these. Anyone who picks out one answer as THE answer is deluded - and it is a sure sign of poor poll design.
I learned after Hurrican Katrina about the difference between a store bought CD or DVD and a home-burned one. The store bought ones could be wiped off and used. The burned ones were transparent. There was no coating left at all.
Does anyone know what the protective coating on a store bought disc consists of? If anyone sells it, I'd like to buy some.
Maybe this is an opportunity for some entrepreneur to get rich.
How about it. I suggest a 10oz spray can.
