I have the same problem

by ilovemusic38 - 1/31/09 7:51 PM In reply to: My PC stopped recognizing both my DVD and CD drives, help! by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I do not think that doing it yourself is really going to help. I have that same problem with my laptop, and I do not know what to do, luckily it is still under warranty and hopefully I can get it fixed. I am going to take it in tomorrow. It is a Toshiba Satellite P200 -Ab1 with a pentuim dual-core processor and 1 GB of ram.

DID YOU EVER CONSIDER USING AN EXTERNAL CD DRIVE ?

by bossewitch - 2/1/09 8:15 AM In reply to: My PC stopped recognizing both my DVD and CD drives, help! by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

perhaps an external drive (or enclosure for your existing cd) might
help.

pc won't reconize dvd/ cd, drive

by gordon162 - 2/1/09 8:18 AM In reply to: My PC stopped recognizing both my DVD and CD drives, help! by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

If none of the other atempt's don't work,I suggest you update your cd rom driver's.After awhile the drvers that control your hardware get out dated. You can go to the web site of brand name of your hardware, and they will have driver updates,or if you don't mind spending a couple of bucks you can download a driver application.A good one is www.driverdetective.com.and program will update all driver's for you at no extra cost.
I hope this helped you.

Registry issue?

by regenspan - 2/1/09 11:20 AM In reply to: My PC stopped recognizing both my DVD and CD drives, help! by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Sorry I'm chiming in late. This happened to my laptop--one day, for no apparent reason, it did not recognize its DVD/CD drive. However, there were other strange behaviors in the computer going on as well. I brought it to the dealer, who simply restored the registry and everything worked again. He said that the registry can become corrupted for no reason anyone can trace. It's easy to use Regedit to back up your entire registry without in any way getting inside the registry to edit (and possibly ruin) it. Since I had that problem I back up mine now and then. Good luck

dvd and cd rom

by thespio - 2/1/09 11:23 AM In reply to: My PC stopped recognizing both my DVD and CD drives, help! by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

hello.
You may need a new IDE cable.Sometimes that may stop the drives from being detected.Try that first if that fails try reinstalling the drivers.
I hope this helps

check cables

by avoura - 2/1/09 4:07 PM In reply to: My PC stopped recognizing both my DVD and CD drives, help! by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Have you tried changing the cables that the drives are attached to? I had a problem once with a drive that did not seem to be working properly, so I tried a different IDE cable and then no more problems.

try booting from a CD

by avoura - 2/1/09 4:17 PM In reply to: My PC stopped recognizing both my DVD and CD drives, help! by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Try booting from a CD, such as a Linux Live CD. If it can read the drive, and boot from the CD, and you try it in both drives in turn, then you know it is a software problem in Windows. If you cannot boot from the CD, then it is a hardware problem. But make sure as well that in the BIOS, the boot order is set to have the CD/DVD drive before the Hard Drive, and then boot from a CD.

Missing CD-Rom

by sampler111 - 2/14/09 11:16 PM In reply to: My PC stopped recognizing both my DVD and CD drives, help! by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Hi in most cases you can use a Microsoft tool called (Microsoft Guided Help Fix CD-Rom missing) so if you do a search for this online this should fix your problem without any hastle.
Thanks.....John

Still No Luck!

by Carolyn Bell - 2/15/09 8:19 AM In reply to: Missing CD-Rom by sampler111

When I start up my computer I get the following message:

"'CD Recording software' will cause Windows to become unstable. Windows has prevented these drivers from loading".

When I click on the message up pops the following window;

"CD Recording Software
Roxio, Inc.

Issue Description:

A CD-recording driver is installed that might cause stability problems, including problems shutting down and problems using a CD/DVD drive. This driver will be disabled.
This driver might have been installed by Easy CD Creator, Windows Media Player or RealJukebox. You might not be able to record CDs until you obtain compatible drivers.

Roxio, Inc. provides an update for Easy CD Creator users at the Easy CD Creator Updates Web site.

For Windows Media Player users, see the Microsoft Web site at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/windowsxp/roxio.asp.

For RealJukebox users, see the RealNetworks Web site at http://switchboard.real.com/rj2/?cd=xpfix.

Contact Information:

Roxio Support Web site (English): http://www.roxio.com/support
Roxio Support Web site (Japan): http://www.roxio.co.jp/support
Telephone: (408) 945-8600 (North America only) "

I have tried numerous times to search for Roxio, Easy Cd creator and Real Jukebox files to uninstall, update them all to no avail.

I have also tried the 'This should fix the problem' suggestion by jazacoop and although the Upper and Lower filters which I deleted as suggested have not been recreated when I boot my computer and I don't see the message pop-up on my screen any longer, my D drive still won't recognise a disc (it just whirrs and spins and says 'insert disc into drive D')

Also when I try to search for problems with my hardware it always says 'D drive working normally' although it is not!

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks,
C Bell.

Still no luck

by jloubier2 - 2/15/09 2:12 PM In reply to: Still No Luck! by Carolyn Bell

Have you tried just reformatting your hard drive and reinstalling your
Microsoft program. If you still have a problem after that, you have a
bad drive.
