Verizon "feature" Questions - Mobile Web 2.0

by emelep - 12/19/08 2:12 PM

Hey, all. I am trying to figure out my next cell phone move and am wondering if I will be able to access Google's Calendar (just look at it... no sms stuff) with the Mobile Web 2.0 of Verizon on a regular cell phone.

I would prefer NOT to have a Smartphone b/c I am cheap and do not want to pay $60/month for access to all the stuff I would decide I needed to access.

So I am super hopeful that I will be able to access Google's Mail and Calendar from the cheaper Mobile Web 2.0 Service.

Thanks so much in advance for your assistance! I have been trying to get this question answered all day by reading Verizon's site.

No "features" to claim!

I don't think that you will be able to access these features from Mobile Web. Mobile Web is a WAP service, and even though Googol Calender has a WAP version, the browser won't support Java-Script, which Google Calendar might rely on. I think that Google may have a mobile suite of applications that you can download depending on your phone. If you can, tell me what phone you use and I will see if I can help you.

You WILL be able to access your Google calendar using Mobile Web. You start at http://m.google.com, their site for mobile devices. Then you can choose gmail, calendar, etc. Most of their services are listed and accessible for you. Just click the one you want.

I use an LG Dare and just did it to re-confirm that it's possible. No problems at all. It's not the fastest in the world, but it works.

The LG Dare has a full HTML browser, bot the Mobile Web 2.0 service. Although the HTMAL browser on the Dare is very WAP like, it is actually full HTML.
