I need a new laptop for high school (yeah, I know right?) and I don't want to blend in with the others. That means no MacBook/MacBook Pro. Know any good $1000 or so laptops that I can get that's got a graphics card (for ahem... "working"), dual-core, and at least 2GB of RAM. Does this laptop exist?
That's not too difficult. Why not visit our laptop forum http://forums.cnet.com/5204-7587_102-0.html?forumID=69 for advice. That's better than BOL for questions like this.
Graphics is the weak part of laptops. Both for energy consumption and for heat. So you really will have to be more specific on your needs in this area to be able to select the best graphics for those.
But don't expect to be able to play Crysis during lunch! For a simple game like Pacman or Tetris, of course, you don't need a very powerful graphic card. Any build in graphic would be more than enough.

Decent machine that can carry you for 3 years. I just recommended it to a group of college student who asked. You can get it for $700 with webcam and BT. My suggestion is run win 7 beta.
Very similar machine. In the US, on sale and no tax we added this to the home for 550. It doesn't seem to be built like a Toughbook so treated with care I bet 3+ years.
