Samsung NC10 HDD Partitioning

by leesa246 - 2/6/09 6:28 PM

I'm actually looking for someone who can actually tell me the pros and cons of partitioning my HDD into 2 drives, or leaving it just as one 160gb HDD. I've have 2 computers before my Samgsung NC10, both Sony desktops, and from what I remember neither have ever asked me to partition the HDD during the first boot.

Here's the deal:
I'm a student and I don't plan on putting a ton of crap on here. Probably just word, itunes, maybe azureus and other miscellaneous programs...
However, my Sony desktop is on its last leg, to be honest. I have about 41 gbs worth of pictures, since I'm really into photography. Eventually, I want to transfer all of that to my netbook before my desktop dies.

For anyone who knows anything, I hear that you can't partition the drive into 1 drive upon initial boot for the NC10, but you have to do a system restore/reboot (or whatever) again to do that? Is this true?

And, If I was to do a 2 drive partition, based on above, what sizes do you recommend from each? My current Sony desktop came with a 160 GB D drive, and a 13 GB C drive... the thing is always wanting to crash because the C drive is way to small, so I obviously never want to go through that again. :)

Thanks!

discussion on partitioning.

For what it's worth...I favor partitioning to isolate my OS and APPs from my DATA. If my OS goes beyond repair I've still got a chance of reformatting C: and reinstalling without affecting the data on D. Or in my case I restore C from an image file in about 15 mins.

The thing you need to do first is BACKUP those PICs ... soon.

Samsung nc10 how to return to 1 partition

by aeisner007 - 3/18/09 11:07 AM In reply to: Samsung NC10 HDD Partitioning by leesa246

I just got my nc10 and let the software partition my drive. I would prefer just one c drive and no d drive. How do I do that while keeping samsung provided software and drivers?

I am not interested in using the provided backup and will backup myself to external drive.
