That's right. I feel pretty confident claiming this one as a win, and something Tom and I have been making a case for since... well, since before I even started working with the podcasts:
We moved our podcast serving from our poor little server here in the building to our provider that we've already been using for our video podcast downloads!
So if you've ever noticed that even our HD video podcasts download 10-20 times faster than a single 30 minute audio podcast from CNET, then you'll certainly notice that you no longer have to wait 20 minutes for your audio podcast to download!
The switch happened mere minutes ago. And now, when I queue up Buzz Out Loud to download, I get the whole episode in, oh I dunno, 12 SECONDS!
I am so pumped. Hopefully you all see a difference in CNET podcast delivery from here on out. ![]()
As you were.
Gonna test when I get home... you have worked hard and gotten much of the blame jason and I hope you realize we understand the difficulties in getting the show out.
take a break man, you earned it!! ![]()
From the bol.cnet.com page, I downloaded the 'cast in 2:20 at a rate of 154 KB/sec. Does this sound right?
This pc might be bandwidth restricted. Will check later from main pc.
Thanks for updating the podcast downloads working great!
However..
when downloading the All Cnet video/audio podcast(s), the name of the podcast feed changes to RSSmix.com ID xxxx, then sometimes it switches back to All CNET Audio/Video Podcast but with a few of the downloads, downloaded twice or 3 times.
A bit annoying but mostly strange. I'm ok with this because it is much faster than before.
But I don't think its my system or its a normal thing. Just an FYI
Keep up the good work.
Has anyone else experienced this in iTunes??
The RSS Mix thing is a short term solution to a problem that was forced upon us due to Google bringing Feedburner into its domain. Refer to last week's Mailbag for Molly's explanation:

I just switched all uber-feeds back over to Yahoo Pipes which means you might get duplicates of some episodes again (RSS sees changes in feeds and thinks you haven't heard certain episodes already... not much I can do about that) but once that switch has made it to your reader, all *should* be normal again.
Phew! I'm puttin out fires left and right this week!
Hi Jason!
Downloading here in Europe via iTunes is kind of stuttery: Buzz Report and BOL downloaded at the same time, Buzz Report was 24.6MB BOL was 22.4MB. BR downloaded in around 11 seconds, BOL took around 3-4 minutes. It initially said it was going to take 9 minutes but it then went in fits and starts -- ut would speed up for a few seconds and then slow down to a crawl again. A couple of TWiT podcasts downloading at the same time were a little slower than Buzz Report but BOL was the only podcast that had any problems, everything else went quickly and steadily.
Nice job. I usually have to wait 5 - 8 minutes to download at my current location, but today I downloaded 3 podcasts in less than a minute. Keep up the great work!
It was so fast that I didn't even have time to time it!
Nice work!
ever since the switch over to the "super-fast d/l's" i can not download. this goes for itunes and directly from cnet page
I've heard no similar reports of this happening to anyone else.
Try unsubscribing to the feed and resubscribing via iTunes and see if that fixes the problem. Honestly, I'm not sure why that's happening to you only...
Please let me know if that fixes the problem.
on my work computer it doesnt do anything at all.
on my home computer it starts and downloads at a very slow speed and then stops and never completes (does not stop at the same place)
work computer xp, work network (site cnet is not blocked)
home computer vista, cricket broadband wireless
this laptop where it did download windows 7, wifi at the bar
I definitely experienced a major upgrade in speed in my iTunes here in Tahoe. Thanks for the hard work Jason! It's been a long time coming!
