I set up a wireless network with a Belkin 56pbs router several years ago. The router is located on the main floor of my house and my office was directly underneath the room where the router is located. Recently I moved my office to the top floor of a colonial style house. While before reception strength from the router was good/excellent now it is low and sometimes we lose connectivity. Any suggestions?
Is a wireless N rated router so much stronger that it will make a difference?
What about some relay that will strengthen wireless service to the top floor of the house?
Look at http://www.netgear.com/Products/PowerlineNetworking/PowerlineWirelessAccessPoints/WGXB102.aspx
I neglected to mention that we have internet access through FIOS Verizon. One option that someone identified is to have a FIOS cable placed in my new office where I am using wireless technology. Verizon reportedly will install the FIOS cable for only $50 per room. My question, if I select that option will my FIOS based network access work on the same network as the network on the main floor which works off a Belkin router?
"Such a question would be asn, if I select that option will my FIOS based network access work on the same network as the network on the main floor which works off a Belkin router?ked of them."
No.
Unfortunately, the reviews on this product show that they often burn out in only 1 year. Others have said that I should either replace my existing router with an N series router which has more throughput than my old Belkin router or get Verizon to hardwire a second line to my office and set up a network upstairs which may have problems communicating with the printers and computer on the main floor.
Run at cab5 connection from router to office, terminate with rj45 jacks plug into computer and router, problem solved. If verizon can do this for $50 that is cheap.
