Dell Inspiron Partition problems

by logans06 - 1/24/09 9:32 PM

I'm trying to partition part of my c drive so I can duel load xp and windows beta 7. I'm using EASEUS Partition Manager which worked fine on my desktop but on my laptop after i resize the c disk it doesn't offer the "create" option. There are 5 partitions on the hard drive. the c and d "backup" and then fat16, fat32, and then an unallocated partition.

Why is there so many? My other computer has only 1 "C".
Any way to partition part of it so I can load windows 7 beta on the new partitioned part?

Just so you know.

I would not use or need the create option. I only need open, raw, free, unpartitioned space to install Windows 7 on.

HOWEVER!! This Windows 7 is beta and people are complaining about removal later and getting their machine back to where/what/when shape it was when they started.

Let's hope you have a better plan.

Hello logan06, If you are having trouble with your drive partitioning, and do not want to continue with that process, you could try installing the Windows 7 Beta on a “Virtual Machine”. Here is a handy Guide to help you set up the Windows7 Beta on a VirtualBox: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/installing-windows-7-on-a-virtual-machine/ . If you want to know how to clean up your other partitions let me know I can help out with that as well.

I installed Windows 7 on virtual machine using Microsoft

virtual 32 and it's slow. I also had to use the console to tell the virtual machine what network type is am using 1. wireless card to use (1a. I have a built in G card, 1b. PC card Draft N card) or 2 a wired network connection. It also uses a generic graphics card driver and is lower resolution then my Vista resolution. I've heard that other vendors virtual machines allow you to use specific graphic card drivers. When you creat the virtual machine you allow is a certain amount of space and MS max is 30 gig.
