I have been using the my heritage website for some time now and recently , when trying to open family tree comparisons and other data e-mailed to me by my heritage Microsoft cuts in with the usual message that they are experiencing difficulties and have to close. In other words, my membership in my heritage is now useless as I cannot access any data people have sent me.I am using an hp pavillion laptop wih intel core 2 duo and windows xp. Someone out there must have an answer for me. Help!
It might help if you tell which of the myriad programs by Microsoft says so.
What exactly is a heritage website (sorry, I don't know), and what is the link between the website and the e-mails?
Kees
The message micro sends is that they have encountered a problem and to either report it or not. When I report the problem and then go to the more info tab it tells me to update my computer. After Ive updated they tell me that they cannot fix this problem!. The heritage site is a genealogical site for your family tree where you post your tree to the net. If someone somewhere else psts their ancestors with the same name and dates, the site contacts you to advise they have matches to your relatives and in their e-mail gives a link to the match. Clicking on the link takes you to the site where you can compare your family tree to theirs, and this is where the problem starts, clicking on compare brings up the microsoft having a problem message.
So I assume it's Internet Explorer that gives this message (I asked, but you didn't tell).
Things to try:
1. Download IE7 if you don't have it and your OS is Windows XP. Then run the socalled safe mode of Internet Explorer by typing iexplore -extoff from the Start>Run box. If this works correctly, it's some IE add-on you installed that interferes. Could well be malware or an obscure toolbar.
2. Download Firefox (another browser) and use that to visit that site. Just copy/paste the link from your email. Because it's another browser it's quite possible it won't give this problem.

Downloaded Firefox to my PC and forwarded all my e-mails from my laptop from my heritage to my PC and everything opens without a problem. I will clean my laptop wirh every means possible until I find the problem. Thanx eveyone.
