The Death Of Dell Computer

by ccccarter - 2/1/09 5:48 PM

It's never a good sign when a multi-billion dollar technology company's support website stays down. Users have not been able to access the Dell.com support website for hours. This means no drivers, no documentation, no patches. Even those of us who know tricks like going to the UK support site were disappointed. The Dell UK support site is also down. Considering their recent financial setbacks and shrinking market share, these are the warning signs of a company that may be headed towards a steep and rapid decline.

Just fine here.

The internet is an odd place. Not all sites work all the time. Dell doesn't run the internet so be sure that it's a worldwide issue first?

Dell USA site working good here!

It's the support areas that are down.

Uh yeah... I know that "Dell doesn't run the internet". I have a high level position at a very large network provider so I know how the Internet works. The homepage loads. The support sites like "support.dell.com" are down. All sites at Dell associated with support, tickets, documentation and drivers are assessable.

I just fetched some drivers.

But I didn't use any support ticket or service tag. Thanks for clearing up what's up and down.

-> Did you catch the Google gaffe just a couple days ago? Even the mighty screw up.

I know some insist on these web sites being up 24x7 or the nine nines. Is that your standard?

Sorry... bad dns

Sorry Dell,
I tracked down the problem. A bad DNS entry was stuck in cache. I flushed the DNS and now all is well...
Except for the fact that Dell still doesn't have a workable business model right now ;)
