AVG 8 free version

by air94931 - 2/1/09 7:54 AM

I'm hearing from many of my clients that their free AVG 8 version is giving msgs that say it can't update or resident shield is not active. I've been to the AVG forums and there are many complaints there too but no one seem to have a fix. It appears an update has caused this issue ....

anyone else have a fix other then a re-install?

Thanks :-)

Yup.

It usually updates again later. Maybe a day or more later.

If this annoys those users they may want to switch to something else as part of the reason this happens is its free and there will only be so many servers to offer updates.

Does that help?

#1642 Resident Shield and/or Web Shield is not active

There are also some other suggestions for various issues with AVG including updating but as Bob already noted, their servers get busy often.

Many have switched to the free version of avast!.

AVAST Horror!!! Please help???

by PacificBlu2 - 2/1/09 12:07 PM In reply to: See if this helps by roddy32 Moderator

I downloaded Avast yesterday b/c my Norton expired and I couldn't afford to pay another term. Avast was a nightmare!! I couldn'tbelieve how it kept popping up this active "on scanner" window on top of my window, on top of whatever I was looking at, just totally in the way and on top of everything - and it went up and down and kept animating all over my screen!! I'm like, what the....... So I tried to go in settings and figure how to stop it, nothing seemed to work or be the answer. I said to heck with this and tried to "uninstall" it - and wouldn't you know, it was impossible to uninstall AVAST. It does NOT come with an "uninstall" button, and I could NOT uninstall it through my "Programs/Features" on my Vista PC. It froze itself on my c'puter! That sickens me......it's stuck on my PC along with another AV program (AVG by the way, which I've used 2-3 yrs ago and was always happy with). My God I've never been so annoyed (well, yes actually I have) at an antivirus/spyware program for forcing itself to stay on my PC when it's totally unwanted! Any ideas? I don't even want to see that little ball with the "a" in it on my taskbar anymore! Thanks for anything that helps!
VH - so sick of annoying programs that won't politely exit.

Perhaps you had problems

by roddy32 Moderator - 2/1/09 12:22 PM In reply to: AVAST Horror!!! Please help??? by PacificBlu2

with avast because you still have remnants of AVG and/or Norton on your computer from earlier installs.

Here is a link for the avast removal tool.

Norton and AVG also have such tools for their programs but I don't have the links handy.
