if you have to such because you released a not-yet-ready-new version.
Imagine that Microsoft should advise its customers to undo the installation of XP SP3 (well, they did, but only in a very specific case).

I've tried to uninstall, but without success.
Any ideas how a non-technophile can do this.
Thanks,
Marty
I notice that after i install ZA 8..my windows firewall is ON..try to turn this OFF..then restart..and i recommend using..Diskeeper pro premier 2008...gudluck

One of the best uninstallers is REVO uninstaller,as it uses the softwares own uninstaller but then goes on and gives you the option to remove all the registry and other bits left behind. And its FREE!
Firstly stop Zne alarm by right clicking on the Z icon and choosing shutdown zone alarm.
Then use REVO to do the uninstall and you will then have a totally clean uninstall ready for whatever you want to do after.
I reverted to the old zone alarm 7 and will wait for them to sort out the problems before I update again.
I have two desktops and a laptop all running XP SP3. I had the same problem after the upgrade to ZA 8. Everything was fine on all 3 computers before the upgrade. I have removed ZA and told them the reason. I have not heard back from them.
Open Zone Alarm, go to Advanced Options under Anti-virus/spyware and disable On-access scanning. You will no longer be scanning every file you open, close or execute. Makes a world of difference on my computer.
Your tip is good advice for speed, I don't know that it is good for security.
I am running ZAPro Security Suite 8 on two Vista and one XP computer and I haven't experienced any problems at all. I am using FoxPro 3 and IE 7.
My guess is that problems people are seeing are related to either a bad install/upgrade or inter-app conflict with something else they are running. I said "guess"!

I used ZA for several years, but had problems for quite a while which disappeared after I narrowed them down to ZA and uninstalled it. The problems were gone after I rebooted. I've used only the WinXP firewall since then along with other free security softwares and have had NO problems. I kick myself for having previously spent so much money unnecessarily on security software.
Here are the instructions that ZA tech support provided me for the complete removal of ZA 8. It also allows for a clean reinstall. That solved all of the problems except slow shutdown for me. However I have noted that the shutdown time gradually returns to normal after several shutdowns.
Please follow the steps listed below to troubleshoot your issue.
Download your ZoneAlarm Security Suite as a saved installation file to your desktop.
To download the latest version of ZoneAlarm Security Suite please copy the following link into your browser's address
window:
http://www.zonealarm.com/zasuitedownload
When the download box pops up, choose Save, in the next box choose Save to Desktop.
Do a special uninstall of your ZoneAlarm Security Suite.
IMPORTANT - If you have a Cisco VPN client installed, you must first uninstall the VPN client, then follow the instructions below, and reinstall the Cisco VPN client again afterwards. This procedure will remove all traces of the TrueVector service, which was incorporated by Cisco into the VPN software.
NOTE: If you wish to keep your settings, create a Backup from Overview -> Preferences before starting, and then Restore afterwards.

Had same problem, removed it from both my laptop and desktop pc. System slowed to a crawl.
I dumped ZASS a few months ago because of issues with Vista. The solution, and a good one is to purchase ESET Smart Security Suite. Works great all around! www.eset.com
There are too many free security programs available that it doesn't make sense to me to purchase one no matter what it is.
I did several restores on my computer. I had Zone Alarm for several years. I tried to uninstall it but I cannot. It lets me go on the net for a few minutes than stops access. The icon does not show in the status bar after the retore. I reinstalled the latest one but it will not iniate. Please help I am only on a few minutes at a time and have to keep rebooting and reconnecting my modem.
uninstalling ZoneAlarm using below programs:
CCleaner - http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds
Get the "slim, no toolbar"
Revo Uninstaller - http://www.download.com/Revo-Uninstaller/3000-2096_4-10687648.html
See if any of the above program will remove ZA properly. If not, you might need to do the manual removal method or try to use the installer (the setup files) to "repair" or "uninstall", if available.
